Im thinking of pulling the mild 355 from my bucket and going with a 383 cause I want more power and this block is still fresh (.030). The 355 is decent but the pistons are dished and I think the compression ratio is a little on the low side. Im thinking if im gonna pull it apart and swap pistons I could just as well go 383, too. What kit did you go with, and how do you like it? Didnt use a kit, which aftermarket crank did you use? Ive checked the normal retail sites and there are many options, id like opinions. Im using 93 chevy pickup heads, they are rebuilt and shaved just to true them up. Anyone have a good cam recommendation? Chris
I bought a kit close to this one for the roadster , from this company. I beat the hell out of it to. You need to notch the pan rail a little, for rod clearence. yea if you put in a lot of cam go with some Rhodes lifters to make it driveable I got a great running 383 in my truck but it is just barely streetable because of the cam, but i sure is on the pipe at above 55 MPH !!!
i built one a few years ago basically used the same parts as above except i used chevy X rods, keith black flatop pistons 11.5-1, I used 2.02 and 1.96 valves. I am sure you know this but do not use a high volume oil pump for some reason the oil cannot get back fast enough and do not go any bigger than a 750 cfm carb. I use a 650 holley that thing is probably the fastest thing I have ever drove.
The oil pump thing must be a Florida thing ? I've built at least 300 -383 strokers and used the hi volume pump on every one. Last year was a slow year for 383 strokers for me as I only built 30. Maybe my customers are using that special " Get Back" oil. Van
