Yeah, and a phone call to Chris (a HAMBer) at http://www.cad500parts.com can set you straight, too. Hr knows his ****, and can put you on the right path after a 5 minute conversation.

my buddy built a nova years ago. bored out 454, baby cam, etc. ran a 12 second 1/4 on sticky street tires through a 12 bolt posi.

had a 700r4. it will hold up just get a good trans cooler on that ****er. OD creates a lot of heat and heat kills transmissions

If you do end up running something with a lock-up torque converter, do make sure to get the lock-up working. Running un-locked in 4th makes a ton of heat to.

I see a lot of people mentioning rear end gears in the 2's. What vehicles would these be found in?

A lot of "Big-Three" stuff throughout the mid-70's and into the 80's had gears in the 2's. It was an attempt to get mileage up in giant, hulking vehicles, before overdrives becoming more commonplace. Some even still had 2's into the 90's.

Cars like the Mailbu Cl***ic, mid-80's vintage, had gears as tall as 2.41:1 and 2.78:1.

Ford has some stuff around 2.73:1, Chrysler had 2.45:1 and even a 2.26:1.

Check out anything mid-size to big in that age range here: http://www.car-part.com
