Mac's is one of my #1 sources for parts for both my T & 34 5W. I like thier selection and prices are fair for the most part. But Jeez are they slow, I have to make sure I have a two week lead time before I need the part. Im in No Florida. Takes 10 calander days to get here UPS. Normally 6 days before I get the shipping notification. UPS is not the issue, once in thier hands its 3-4 days. Seems processing at Mac's takes awhile. Everyone else is 4 days tops from order to delivery, Anyone else have this issue?
I noticed that too. I used to order more often, not so much recently. Plus, is it me or are the quality of the parts lower then they used to be? For instance; axle keys, seem cheaper quality? That is a concern. A lot of parts are made overseas now.
Actually I think they are from Denmark. Doesn't matter...we should be making them here but then the average Joe wouldn't want to pay the price for a product that is made in asafe working environment and follows some sort of low level environmental rules.
No problems for me....of course I'm only about 80 miles from them. I'm not speaking for Mac's at all here but they do seem to keep plenty of parts on hand and having a huge inventory costs money to have just sit there and maintain. Everybody is trying to stay alive these days by saving a buck here and there and people+inventory reduction is, unfortunately, one of the first/easiest/most effective ways to trim operating costs. Mac's gets lots of parts from various vendors, including Drakes, and if its not on Mac's shelf then there's no option but to wait until one is made and/or shipped out from a supplier. Carlisle, Hershey, Ionia and all the other huge shows are great but they only happen once or twice a year and you can't just drop a dime and have parts show up at your door from these shows. I'm grateful that the Mac's, Snyder's and Drake's of the world are somehow still kicking and keeping the hobby, if not well fed, at least alive during these tough times. Yes, 10-16 days is a little slow...but my opinion it isn't anything much to complain about in light of how things are these days. -Bigchief.
The reason I got my p***port was just to go to Mac's and honestly I'm not quite sure I would go back. During March they had a weatherstripping sale and I contacted their customer service about ordering in person. They e-mailed me back letting me know that it wasn't a problem (I will say their customer service was great) and in the e-mail they put in bold to bring the promotional code with me (which I did). So I went over to Mac's and asked their counter-person about the discount and told me it was already programmed into the computer. They had 3 out of 4 pieces in stock (they didn't have the door seals, neither did their supplier) and after I paid and went to the car I examined the bill and found they charged me $127 for a $113 part in their catalog. I asked and told me that it's written in the catalog that the prices fluctuate (which I understand but for the price to go up 10% when the catalog was just printed seemed a little bit high). Went back to the car and also noticed that they never gave me the weatherstripping discount. Went back inside, asked the counter-person about it and was told it was only for online sales. I told him that I had contacted their customer service and was told I would still receive the discount in person. Basically his answer was "oh well." So I overpaid by $50, and got charged that extra amount when declaring the weatherstripping at the border. Right away I contacted their customer service and they gave me a store credit for the extra charging. It's great that there close to where I live, but I don't know if it's worth the aggravation to order in person. Tom - Gl***_Packs
Strange, I buy from them and I usually get stuff in 10 days..... and I'm in New Zealand (you know, the little islands off the coast of Australia )
I did a full restore on a customers 26 T, and got all my parts within a week each time. I was very happy with Macs.
I'm getting ready to order a sizable number of parts from Mac's. It's been awhile and the last time I ordered the parts arrived in a timely manor. I'm wondering it it will be a different story this time. I usually don't order until I'm in need of something and if delivery is slow it will put me behind on my project. I'll give it a bigger lead time and hope for the best. Frank
I've used them for years and have had no concerns with any of their parts or service. Mac's offers same day shipping for a $2.00 fee if you order before 2 pm. Otherwise they ship the next day for the $2.00. As far as modelAmark's suggestion that their parts come from China, they sell the same aftermarket parts as everyone else across the United States, including Snyder's........like Vintiques and other manufacturers. I live in Michigan and get excellent service from them, without paying the extra $2.00 charge. I find it best to place my order in the evenings when their order takers aren't so busy. that way the warehouse packs the order the next morning....just my opinion. Frank (fab32)....I ordered something from them Friday and they told me on the phone that the warehouse was backed up by several days, which is understandable as everyone is getting their cars ready for springtime.
One week delivery from New York to Southern California seems fair. First cl*** mail takes one week from Michigan to Ca.
I've had great luck with Mac's they've always been prompt and helpful. Usually, I time my orders so that I can pick them up at a show and save the postage. That really helped when I ordered an oversized, fragile cowl band and I saved enough on my front bumper to go with stainless instead of chrome. Bratton's is another very fine, family run Model A supplier.
I always TRY to buy from **** Spadaro He is a HAMB member and I always get fast, secure shipping. He usually has what I need ... and at a good price. He even delivers some items to Charlotte to save on shipping.
Folks, The secret is planning. You've got a minimum two year build; order what you need in economical shipping units in enough time, and everything will be fine. Everybody out there is trying to save a buck; I don't blame them. In my world, Federal Express would be a very small specialized company.
I placed 2 online orders recently. Both arrived within 4 days, outside of one item that was made by Snyders and took 10 days shipped direct from them. Also, they were nice enough to add an item to one order the day after it was placed and being boxed up.
I've ordered a pile of stuff from them for my '35. Been real satisfied with the service and quickness of delivery. 6 to 7 days every time. When I've had a question, they're quick to answer. And the parts have been real nice.
I placed a 31 item order with Mac's 2 weeks ago and received it last week. All within reason in my opinion. I ordered from them many times before and will in the future. With the weather getting nice I can ***ure you any outfit such as this is swamped with orders at the moment.
Always have to have at least one smart*** I ordered from Macs today got an email from them this afternoon saying it would ship tomorrow. Pretty damn good service if you ask me.
The bottom line is that not all of those vendors would source so much from China if their buyers didn't USUALLY ALWAYS buy the cheapest part available, even if it is only a nickle difference.... Just a fact... And, I am such an optimist about how much I am going to get done that I nearly always have the parts for my project car way before I need them.... I would venture to say that this is the case for a lot of us....
Actually it was mostly serious. When I first started building, the only company I could find in Phoenix was The Rod Factory (pre internet). I had a 66 Mustang one piece steering column/box that uses the 1" pitman arm instead of the 1 1/8" arm that later ones use. Karl said to bring it in and they would weld my splined area into a pitman arm blank. So I did. When you buy an aftermarket Mustang arm, most are tapered 50% on both sides where the tie rod bolts to so it can mount either way. TRF arm was not. It was only mountable between the frame and pitman arm and my tie rod had a zerk that wouldn't fit. It took me longer to modify the TRF arm myself then it would have to make one in the first place. After a few mishaps like that with them, I started making my own parts rather than relying on them. So, you can either live with it, whine about it, or do something about it.
I find that both Mac's and Bratton's are pretty good about telling you which is the better piece, which will not fly by MAFCA and which piece is made in the US if there is a choice a**** similar items. They're also pretty honest about sheet metal parts not being a perfect fit.
I see that you are in Florida, I am too. For that reason I use Mike's "A" Ford-able. They are in Georgia, & ship really quickly. Same variety as Snyder's & Mac's, but you'll get it in 2 days in Florida. Good people to deal with too. Not trying to take your business away from Mac's, but it's an option. Here's a link to their website-hope this helps a little: http://www.mikes-afordable.com/index.asp Dan .
