Projects I`m cleaning house!Who else has??

I got to thinking this past weekend that I have way too many projects.I enjoy a build but here lately I have been busy as hell at my shop so finding time to do a Build of my own is slim.Also having 3 and four projects kicking around you tend to jump from one to another and hoard up parts for them all.Well had enough of it and cleaning house.Going to try to sell all but one project,Got to keep one!!. then sell the parts for the cars that I sold. I am not only get clear of project kicking around a number of years but I can get my head around one project and not jump from one to another . Has anybody else here had times like this and cleaned house of too many projects?

 

Last year I cleaned house on ebay and also here on the hamb ,Bought everything I need for both builds.Now I dont need to much just a couple things ........And also many years ago was building 3 cars at once ,Sold 2 and finished 1......

 

Yup - several times then go back on a buying spree thinking I am saving all the old cars i can. Instead of finishing one I have three on the roll at present and should listen to my own words - finish one before moving onto another.
The other approach I'm going to try is not sell them but...
Take one and do it right
Then bring the next one out and do it right
and then
If I am still alive do the last one and have a hell of a hoot looking at all those fine ol rods!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe and then it will only just be maybe decide if my children deserve any of them

 

Started cleaning out my ba*****t this morning. The swap meet I vend at is in June and I need to sort my **** out. Tired of dragging the same old stuff around so it's out with the old and in with the new.Dinged,dented and bent trim goes to the dump. Cracked lens...gone.It's surprising what I find packed away...forget where I even got half of the stuff!

 

My p***ion is motorcycles, British thumpers are nice, but a I have a Jap fleet.

For years I did just what you did, collect projects and parts for them, never having time to actually start them.

Recently things have changed in my work situation...just finished one bike, and put another on the rack. 2 more BSAs await...

I would keep more than one, just in case your situation changes and the time and cash suddenly appear.

 

I've been thinking about it lately...

 

Well I`m not alone. If I keep more then one I will be doing what I`m doing now.Checking the Hamb and Looking at Customs,next week it will be g***ers.week after Hot rods.and then wagons. I can`t keep my mind on one project if I know I have 3 or 4 more and all I need is to see something cool and then I`m ****ed.Dumping all them but the custom.I feel that one will be best suited for my shop and what I do.

 

I have been thinking about cleaning out a few old tractors i have lost interest in. The idea of turning a key to start a engine instead of a crank is sounding better the older i get.

 

I used to clean house every three years, but now I kinda want some of them back. Be very careful what you get rid of.

 

The sled project? That'd be kool.......... you got the skill to make a nastyazz sled forsure.

 

I had my hips replaced last year,and that helped me take the same direction.
I'm selling everything but my ford and Irenes 84 monte SS.
First thing I did was ask our kids if they wanted anything,if they did ,take it home.
I'm good with my desision.

I did it over twenty years ago ...

Sold off a 56 F-100 Big Window, a 49 Mercury coupe ... 3 or 4 off topic vehicles ... and a bunch of parts that I had gathered over the years.

Then ...
I had a pocketful of $$$ and got real busy on my 32 Roadster.

One of the BEST automotive moves I ever made ...

 

I'm with you guys. Have had a few cars over the years. Bought a few, sold a couple. Ended up with 6 of 'em. Now money is tight, I'm 53 years old and never did build my dream...a late '20s/early '30s hot rod. Got a pile of parts for a '29 roadster. Decided to sell all of 'em to do the roadster.

 

I should have done it four years ago. When I look at what I have paid just to put a roof over my "stuff", I get queezy.
It's time to clean house.

 

All my stuff is for sale right now.

You focus on ONE and your gonna kick some major ***.
I've got 2 1/2 but only one is getting worked on.
Almost finished that now as you know and then its on to the Coupe which will be my last BIG project.
I have several small scale things in mind but who knows if I'll ever get to them.
Don't really care either....
I'll have fun regardless!

 

No Leon my newest project I picked up. a 1935 sled!! s****ing the 52 to build it! You lost yet?LOL

 

I was focused on finishing my 64 Falcon. Then a neighbor turned me on to an O.T 71 Plymouth Duster in Go Green for a price I couldn't refuse, then I found a parts car for my Falcon, then another parts car(now I can build another Falcon between the two,lol)

Now have decided that what I really want is an older truck AND car, so i swapped labor for a 46 Chev 1/2 ton. (still looking for a car)

NOW, I need to clean out the newer stuff so I can focus on the 46.....but my oldest boy turns 15 in July and he is eyeing the Duster. LOL

Its a rollercoaster ride, thats for sure.

 

i know the feeling. i've got 3 buildings. a 20' by 65', and 2 - 12 by 35's . plus outside storage with 3 projects. i get overwhelmed alot. and then i find myself in my office on the computer all night. so nothing gets done. haha.

 

Everytime I clean house, I get rid of the good stuff I should keep and I keep the ****.Then I decide I want better stuff and can't afford it because the value went up too much.

 

Was talking to my brother just yesterday ... and he was lamenting the fact that multi-tasking is way over-rated. To quote him: "Multi-tasking means you're doing lots of things at once ... none of them well." Building a car is a pretty involved project even under the best of conditions -- focus will only improve the outcome.

In other words, sell off the distractions and use the money to do the one you really want.

 

My downfall was buying 25 acres 20 years ago, it seems if you have room the projects will come AND multiply. A buddy stored his boat at my place because he needed room for his woody, when he picked it up his father rode along & was amazed at my collection. He said his dad couldn't believe I had 30 cars. I said " Aw, I don't have that many!!" Then I made a list, he missed some. Didn't count the '29 rdstr p/u hanging in the rafters, the extra F-1 cabs, my son's VW bodies, he missed the 9 motorcycles and 5 tractors. After a snow laden tree fell on the '61 Burb, just missing the '60 El Camino I decided that if I can't finish any more projects in the next 10 years than my track record for the last 20 years I might as well let somebody else try. Then I got a smokin deal on a '32 3 window, listed a bunch of stuff here and took the '40 Merc to PDX swap last year. Finally sold thru HAMB add last Nov & took more stuff to PDX this year. Sold the Kurbside and a '67 Chev SWB and the left over '40 Merc stuff. I got an offer to trade 2 of my projects for a Model A project??? That's a positive direction isn't it? Even after thinning out the least desirable there's still 9 or 10 I have to keep. The Nomad I bought in 1968, the 32 sedan etc. and 4 or 5 motorcycles The Crosley is too cute and the Whizzer. What was that Lottery ticket number?..............?

Both say that the garage cleaning is the summer project!

 

But I like my stuff. I like having my stuff around me. I like car and motorcycle stuff. Where I live, people have stuff, but not hot rod old stuff. I have friends who have stuff, old stuff, and we like going to each others place and seeing all our stuff. We just love being surrounded by old stuff. We are comfortable being around our old stuff. This is America, we will keep our stuff. Lippy (Ilike my stuff) in Ks.

 

I need to do the same..I've been forever trying to save them all from the s****yard..but no one is buying projects, so Alot of them are gone.
I have more..I just hate to let them go. I don't know if I'll find another to replace it one day for what I have into it. It costs nothing to store the cars and stuff.
but hell, I have 20 or so "projects" that I simultaneously am collecting parts for. All that time and money could finish one out really nice, maybe 2 or 3..

I don't know..but I do know that if I keep going at my present rate, I'll have to live to 150 to finish them all.

I'll be taking a load to Pomona this weekend.

 

I'm with Lippy, I love my stuff ! even though I know I won't finish every project the dreams keep me going, All my close friends have the same problem...

 

I sold two of my cars already and going to sell some more. I read a post that stated

It was about racing, but if your not having fun, then you need to do something to change that. I wasn''t having fun jumping from car to car trying to keep them drivable, instead of driving them. I selling the ones I like the least and driving the rest.

i have way too many parts laying around, i have a bunch of them for sale but some stuff im afraid to sell.....i might be in a bind one day and need it

 

Ah Bill......the couplw will be a cake walk...a labour of love.... and if ya dont love it i know a nice warm home for the poor old 32....

And Fitzee.... lost, fak yea...how the christ can i follow all the old tin that pours through your shop....good think we are in a rust belt or you'd be like Sanford and Sons..... Maybe now though i'll finally get to see what you got stashed...
