[ QUOTE ] i love KIRKS bike,,but WHY do you nimwits keep calling his bike a BOBBER???? its not a ****ing bobber..do your homework NERDS>. [/ QUOTE ] Here's what I found doing my homework. According to this It sounds like a bobber. ===Whats a chopper? Its time for some definitions. Im a scientist by training, and we scientists like to define what were talking about. Otherwise were in danger of not knowing what we are talking about. And theres already too much of that in the world. So, whats a bobber? Whats a chopper? This is not easy to answer. Most bike aficionados have a vague idea of the difference between them, but I can find no clear-cut definitions of either term that precisely demarcates one from the other. As far as I can tell from the context these words are usually used in, the essential difference between a bobber and a chopper could be that bobbers have stock steering geometry (rake, trail, etc), while choppers have altered steering geometry (raised, lowered, raked, extended, stretched, etc) that required frame surgery (i.e. they were chopped). Other than that, they are essentially species of the same genus. Or at least are different stages along the same evolutionary path. American bike authority Jerry Hatfield seems to share this view of the distinction being based on steering geometry, but is reluctant to concede that bobbers and choppers may be very closely related, even inter-twined. A photo caption for a bobber Chief in his Indian Chief Motorcycles 1922-1953 says Always popular during the production era were customs. These bobbers maintained stock frame and fork geometry and were outgrowths of efforts to lighten and speed up the motorcycles. Theyre a different strain from the later choppers, which were designed for a certain look regardless of functionality. === I go with the modified geometry thing when I cl***ify bikes in my head too. Stripped down, unmodified geometry pretty much gets it. Hey ****, what's your definition. I have a feeling we'll all have different ones.
Funny how we need to label everything with wheels that has been "changed" in some way or another. Pretty tiring... I agree with KIRKs definition, but it's almost as scary as starting a post with the ***le "How do you define traditional?" ...and the first person who starts defining traditional on this thread DIES
a BOBBER IS AN ORIGINALKNUCKLEHEAD,FLATHEAD, PANHEAD or something similar with the rear fender "BOBBED"(cut in half) the front fender is "usually" removed and as much other useless junk removed as possible also, and the motor is more than likely hopped up...and USUALLY(always in my opinion) same size wheels and tires, front and rear... i think labeling stuff takes the fun out of things,,but just thought id say that cuz names and labels are thrown around so much,,, regardless..Kirk! your bike rules!
Last years "barn find"....now in some else driveway in Nebraska ....hated to sell it, but now the garage is full of Triumphs. ..(profit is a GOOD thing!!)
gotta agree with hatch. that red 45 is a bobber for sure. just had unnessasary parts removed and the nder removed at the hinge pin. if i were to put a label on "my little pony" (still chuckle when i say that) i t would be a barhopper, same as what i consider my '40 knuck to be.

hey KIRK, that bike kicks ***. did you shoot clear on the tank, or is it still bare metal? that has to be the best show sign ever- too funny. Although, barhopper sounds a little too tough. cool and the gang..
[ QUOTE ] I don't care how you wanna label it... I just call it cool. And the sign kicks *** too. [/ QUOTE ] The SEAT kicks ***! Hey Shogun, yes I cleared over the bare metal. I don't know how well it will last but it looks cool for now.
i would think it would last for awhile. A couple of local folks have ran clear over bare metal. One was done in just cheap aresol after all the metal/leadwork was done- think the report I've always heard was that it was good for a year before it started to varnish out. The other was sprayed with proper clear the summer before last, if I remember right. Last I saw still looked the same. The tank, rear fender and the frame had been polished out before it was cleared. I think that they had some issues getting it to stick at first though. You might have to handicap these figures though, as they probably spend a lot more time in the garage here due to our killer weather. anyways... super cool bike
That thing is so ****ing gay. I mean it. It's gay. As soon as the show is over I'm taking it away from you and keeping it in my garage. I'll ride it a lot and beat all the gayness out of it. Once I've ridden all the gayness out of it, I'll give it back. See ya Wednesday, don't forget my root-beer. Craig
