I have a pair of lever type Delco-Lovejoy shocks. One was froze up so i cleaned it and now moves freely. My question is what fluid goes in this shock? coming out it looked and smelled a little like gear oil
I don't know about the Delco, but with the old Girling lever shocks on the old Jaguars I have always used shock oil from the motorcycle store and you get to choose the weight of oil you want. Helps with tuning the damping.
Just thinking out loud, but you may want to change the fluid in the other one to try and keep both sides consistent. Good luck
... and my wife wonders as to why I chuckle EVERY time I get on the HAMB... You might try the VCCA guys, just tell them that you're working on a '29 Chevrolet.
you also want to make sure your seals are ok, they many leak when you put in new fluid.. www.cl***icautoshocks.com can sell you new shock fluid and seals.. or completely rebuild your shocks.
motor cycle fork oil will work or you can scour the swap meets for a can o whiz. Yep this can is full, left over from wh My father rebuilt the knee action front suspension in his 37 Chevy. back in 44.
