Iv been thinking about using a pair (or 3) on one of my flatheads. So I picked this one up the other day at the swap meet.

Iv seen a few used in pairs on early overheads

    Anybody ever used them?
    More CFM’s than 48’s or 94’s?
What all did they come on besides strait 8 Buicks?
How many different bore sizes are there?
What do you know? (school my dumb ***) Thanks:) [IMG]

I don't know much about these, but can contribute some random crumbs:
They were used on Cads too, and some military applications. Most were 4 bolt, I believe some Buick ones have same flange as 97. Buick secondary ones have no idle circuits, and were used over an air valve. Almost certainly bigger than 97's--probably I can find bore sizes in Stromberg catalogs I have. Innards look reminiscent of 97's in the Army manual I have but everything is bigger and rearranged. Jets made like 97 but use a bigger version of the wrench (I've got one of those). Actually, I've probably got all the tools for these things. They do appear on occasion in early fifties rod magazines, usually in early OHV dual applications. Someone also cast 4 bolt flathead Ford manifolds that were probabaly meant for these--Grancor???
I'm pretty sure they will turn out to be too large for three on a flathead.

Thanks for the re and info Bruce

The one I got (in pic) must be some kind of universal replacement, it has 3 and 4 bolt pattern, manual choke and clamp on style throttle arms. Its nos but came with no box so im only guessing. I did pull one of the plugs and try my jet wrench and it fit (#42 jets) I also tried to check bore size with dial calipers and it is very close to a Stromberg 48 . I was watching some nos Buick duel carbs on eBay and I found it kind of strange that the secondary (rear) carb has no accelerator pump but dose have mixture screws.

  4. My hemi welder has one(1956 hobart with a 56A industrial 354). It is kind of a goofy setup, with no accelerator pump. Mine has innards exactly the same as the 97, jets and such. I wish i knew more about it, i need to clean up the carb to get the hemi running.

I found your post searching the web and need to know if anyone can tell me a source on kits for a Stromberg Aerotype off a 1940-48 Cadillac. By the way, the LaSalle also had them but they were smaller. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks-Kelsey

PS - The base has a "P33986" stamped in. On the fuel inlet side of the carb toward the bottom of the bowl is a small circle with "P23984" around the perimeter, and "1 1/8" in the center.

You hardly ever see them, but Edmunds made a dual intake for flatheads that used 4 bolt carbs like these.
