That car was built by Paul Beck who is good friends with Denny and Matt Lesky of Ionia Hot Rod Shop. Paul got it to go 170 something with a cast piston 350 that was going in his tow truck and a few miles an hour faster (190 I believe) later with a BBC. Mooneyes (sponsor) hasn't been able to go past 200 with big bucks being spent on it since Paul sold it.

  12. Thanks KIRK! Very cool collection to say the least. Thanks for the detail shots of the Tony Bettenhausen helmet and pics. He is a distant cousin and enjoy any old pics or artifacts from his racing career. I believe 1961 practice is when he was killed, testing out a friends car for the Indy 500. He was strongly favored to win the Indy 500 that year. Wish I could see all the collection myself, but your pics are as good as being there. I guess us Bettenhausens all have hot rods in our blood.;)

So, be honest.. When nobody was looking, did you hop in one?

Ya know. There may be a reason I do not get to attend such things...

    Thanks for sharing!

  14. Rosie Roussel's old CRA winner with the Riley, last I saw this was being looked after by the NHRA museum (admittantly that was just prior to Rosies death), is it being stored there, or did Rosies daughter sell it (which I find hard to imagine)?

Great collection of awesome cars, all with pedigree and cl***.

    Thanks,

    Drewfus

Fantastic collection! Thanks for posting up the photos. I think I would have been taking a BUNCH of close up detail shots of those cars. Cool!

Sure looks like the Curtis replica road racers my uncle used to build, the whole collection reminds me of the late Otis Chandlers' collection of motorcycles, 1900 touring cars & rare muscle cars he had. I really dig the 80's Indy cars, thanks for sharing..:D

I knew I'd seen a couple of those cars before. They were in the NHRA museum back in 2006.

Wow! And it is great that he let you guys walk around and look/take pix & that the cars are not "roped" off.

Its great to see so many wonderful cars and history preserved. I sure hope this collection gets to a good museum one day, instead of being broken up on the auction block. Thanx for posting these! Gary

Question: Do any of the "nuev-o rod-o" guys ever wonder why all the circle track related threads on the HAMB are so friggin' SO HUGE?
