I picked this thing up about a month back out of an irrigation ditch. It had been there for about 70 years at least. Got it from the original owner, so to speak, her father bought it new. So far I've got a Buick straight 8 to drop in it, an I beam front end out of a Model A, and I'm hoping to get either a ford 8.8 rear axle or maybe the rear axle out of an old trans am... The rescue crew... I'll put up more photos soon.
Cool--guy I know in Cedartown GA has a '21 Stude roadster that's currently a driveable work in progress. The body is solid and straight. It has a wider and longer passenger compartment than most cars of that vintage. I'm 6'5" 260#, can barely get in on the passenger side of my brother-in-law's '27 T roadster pickup (built from t he front half of a touring car) but I can sit comfortably in the '21 Stude roadster.
Talk about saved in the nick of time... Wow! 15 more minutes in that field and the old girl would have completely returned to mother nature!!!
Holy cow. You're definitely a savior. How could you even tell it was (is still I guess) a Studebaker? Good luck with that. If you can bring that back to life, you are multiple levels beyond what I could ever dream of being (not that that would be too hard for some folks on here).
I'd suggest making a a single pair of doors and turning it into a bucket style body. Us big guys like big buckets!
here's a link to an old thread showing my buddy Ted's Stude it's very cool, I need to stop by and get some current pictures.. his was originaly a big four door sedan, now a speedster http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269233
Ambitious...yes! If you're interested, I have a pristine 1921 Stude Big Six complete body and hood....no chassis. When I say pristine - the car sat in a barn since at least 1960, has a complete top with the beveled glass rear window, good windshield, dash (showing 19211 original miles on the odometer), like new wood, interior, etc...it was literally unbolted from the chassis many many years ago and put in dry storage. I'll try to add a couple pics here...if not, they are in my profile. I'm not selling it cheap...but would save YEARS in fabrication. Good luck!
damn think ya got a big enough truck to haul one little ole rusty car. good luck on the project you are more ambitious than me thats for sure and an old stude would be cool. something different than your average chevy or modle t
I would like to see someone build a touring car (full length) into a hot rod, flathead wire wheels and a banjo. Thanks for rescuing that vintage tin, i can't be everywhere.
That was (and may be) my plan for the '21 I posted. I just have too many projects in front of it. If it doesn't find a new home, no loss - but I could dearly use the garage real estate it's eating up!
Winterbear, I wouldn't be surprised especially if you're around Moscow,Id. I am planning on shortening it down to a 2 door and I have a straight 8 to put in it. That was the only truck that we had available but you shoulda seen the looks we got driving back through town. It was priceless. I found out it was a 1918 Studebaker ED Series Six. The vin plate was still on the frame (sort of). Also if anybody has a set of rear springs that are usable let me know. Thanks
Winterbear and Pietro. We should get together and do lunch sometime. We be nice to meet some of the local HAMBers.
Here are the motors I am planning on using. Ordered everything I need for my front axle and it should be here by Friday or Monday.
