I have a 53 Ford with the original flathead in it. Can I hook up a new oil fill cap with a hose connected to the aircleaner? Rings are starting to go and want to get rid of the smoke for now. PCV valve? Thx
you're talking about doing a pcv valve conversion? can be done, but how depends on the engine configuration. are you still using the original fuel pump? if you have an electric pump, you can drill the fuel pump block off plate for the pcv and run a hose to the air cleaner. seen pics of a couple that had a pcv added to the oil cap and run to the breather. third way is if you aren't using the road draft tube, mount the pcv in the block off for it. y'all have a good day, Keith
I don't think I'd recommend this unless the pushrod hole is plugged. A lot of oil comes out of there with the engine running and the pushrod out. Consider removing the road draft tube and putting a PCV valve in it's place with a rubber grommet to fit the intake manifold. Jim
That is how I did it on a '53 Merc flathead. I had a buddy turn a plug from aluminum on his lathe for the road draft tube opening at the front of the intake, bored a hole in it for a standard PCV valve with a 90* ****** and routed it to the PCV port on the carb. In my case the carb was a Hoilly 390 cfm 4 bbl and had a PCV port. Absent that port on your carb (if you have stock Ford 2bbl) I would think you could plumb it to the air cleaner. Ray
