I was always a flames and scallops fan, but since I had my wifes car done, I'm partial to striping now. And IMO, they can all be over done.

Flames are for guys who cant draw straight lines.

Actually I like both. Never owned a car with flames though.

So... Would everyone agree that each has a general time era? And if so, what are they? limited to American cars only? For example, I've never seen a mid-80's Nissan Z with Scallops and would bet money that I never will! (Please don't paint your "Z" this week and try to place bets with me come the weekend!) Again, all are opinions..... Or are they?

  8. I like them all. It's all about what you like. If the art work flowes with the body lines you can never go wrong. Rick

I personally never liked flames just because they seemed overdone compared to scallops and pin striping but this thread has warmed me up to flames. Keep 'em coming!

  19. i like my scallops pan seared on high heat flip. sea salt and olive oil ... big flames needed to do it right

Way back when flames ,scallops, and pinstripes were used too cover up crappy bodywork. Give me a car with perfect body work and a nice paint job! save the circus wagon paint for the clowns!

I like any of them if they're used in the right applications. The key is having the good taste to know when to stop. WAY too many don't. Any paint should accent the car, not dominate it.

One thing I'm glad is gone is the 90's graphics. Just my opinion but I'm not a fan of flames and prefer my scallops grilled and with shrimp and rice. I do like tasteful pin stiping.

I like them all but depends on the car i did this square back a few years back flat paint gloss clear scallops over the same color with red pin stripping.suttle but turned out cool and i dont think flames would have worked on this car.

  28. nothing beats flames and pinstripes, scallops-not so much. scallops can look ok on the right car, otherwise it looks like someone took a paint brush to it. sorry to the scallop guys, never liked them.
