guys, is this a 48' chevy fleetline? these are only picture's i have. looks like a 48' chevy is closest i can tell it is. can anyone id it thanks.
i looked at 47',48' buick's and look at the "B" pillar it's different. this car slants forward like the chevy but i'm not sure and can't get better picture. this thing is tucked away in plain sight and thousands of people drive by daily and have no idea its there. it takes pretty healthy zoom to just get these pictures.
My guess is that it's a '41 Oldsmobile. I don't see a door pod of any kind on the doors, so that's why I think it's a '41. If it is a Buick, it's a '41 Special Sedanette.
How about a 1948 Packard? ...or not. The radius of the window opening at the top rear of the door looks too squared off.
I'm going with '47 or '48 Pontiac. This being the bigger of the two versions, or the Torpedo. The Torpedo had the trim on the door where the Streamliner was smaller in the windows and had NO trim above the door...... or do I have that all backwards?
hey 55dude i know your avatar says washington, but did you by chance take these pics in south texas? i swear that is the same car i've been looking through the weeds at for years, and it is just a stones throw from my house. man the scenery, the fence, and the car look the same.
41 Buick, Olds, small Cad, or possibly Pontiac. I have never seen one without the chrome running through the door handles though. I have a 41 Olds, so spend a fair amount of time around them. The Pontiacs also had a 2 piece hood that was covered with a wide strip of chrome. The Buicks had a side to side opening hood with cut outs like seem to be on the back side of that hood. 41's did not have door pods in all those cars. my $.02 worth. Doug
comparing the 46' pontiac is a 99% match! good call 54Caddy. the picture is in washington and lowcab you are close it's a 53'-54' ford sedan delivery. can't see the grille to be sure but you can bet there will be more pictures in the future and then i will reveal how small of chance these vehicles had of being spotted. they had a better chance being spotted at the bottom of a gulch than where they are now. stay tuned!
I speculate it's a '41 Caddy Series 61.............the hood has fairly large rectangular openings with the trim missing.........none of the other GM "B" bodies had that in '41 let me know if I win............. Ray
Hnstray sorry dude but the 41' caddy's "B" pillar is too verticle. the 46',48' seems to be the winner. gonna stop this week and find out.
Don't be sorry.............but I think you are incorrect.......'41 "B" body GM fastbacks (aka Sedanet in Buick) (not to be confused with "A" body series) are are the same doors/roof/glass. These bodies were carryovers into '42/'46/7/8 and even '49 for Buick Special. I own (4) '41s and they are the same body shell as the Pontiac somebody posted. The primary difference is the the front fenders end at the front the door on '41s........'42 and later have the "pontoons" or fender extensions that end about 1/2 or 2/3rds back on the door, as shown in the Poncho pics. It is possible I am incorrect regarding it being the 61 series Caddy.....but I am pretty confident about the shared "B" body structure. The Series 62 Caddy is the "C" body and this is not one of those. Ray
Ray, Is the "C" body in the Cad the same as the 98 series in Olds? Along with my 41 '70' series Olds, I have a Buick Sedanet parts car, and both have the same "B" pillar as pictured. Doug
guess i'm gonna have to just stop by and end this mystery. i just like to have my ducks in a row meaning asking to look a specific vehicle instead of making them feel bothered by saying "hey can i look at those old cars?" i have a tendancy to not want to waste my time unless somebody mentions specific vehicle.
