  1. This really sucks. I hope you find them. Are there any self storage places within that short radius of your shop that they could get to in the time frame they did? I ask because if it was residential, the noise would piss off most neighbors. Those storage lots are accessible 24 hours in some places.
Guys rent a storage (free or just $99) for the first month..pull a job or 2, work out of there for a month, empty it and forget about it..
They need to use a keypad with code to get in, I would think possibly the place may have a record of that. If not, they have cameras too.
Also Pomona swap is this next weekend 24th and 25th. I'll keep an eye out for the stuff.

I agree the guys knew you, and have been in the shop before. they knew you were gone. Think of all the people that would possibly be mad at you. These guys were not just stealing, they were hoping to clean you out and put you out of business.
The part of assembling the car to move it makes me think that. Most thieves grab the easy shit they can sell off, who puts a car together to take it? I mean a 63 Rivi is cool and all, but not easy to hide, or flip...
They had a plan, they were organized.
They thought they were smart, but you have the stuff to hopefully ID them.

So far the only news I have is that I talked to the cops yesterday and they say they have a partial license plate number and they are going to see what they can do with it (from the surveillance).

I want to thank every body who is helping, sending money to my paypal, buying T-shirts, one of you guys sent me a set of brand new snap-on wrenches in the mail, a lot of you guys are offering to let me borrow tools until I get my self in to a situation where I can buy some of my own again, hell some of you guys are offering to just right out give me tools! Every body is willing to help keep their eyes and ears open for stuff that was taken. Phone calls from complete strangers asking if there is anything they can do.
I never thought that there would be such a huge response and so much help, we live in a pretty messed up world but there are a lot more good people out there than I thought. I talked to my Dad today, who lives in Kentucky, and told him about this. He was speechless, he said things like this don't happen any more. Well they do, amazingly. My wife was never real happy with me sitting on the computer looking on the HAMB, well after I showed her this thread a few days ago and let her read this and showed he the contributions to my paypal and orders for T-shirts (sofar almost $1400) she sat staring at the monitor and started crying. She said that she did not understand this, but that she was wrong about the HAMB. Well all I can say is that the HAMB and the car community is more of a family than I ever expected it to be. All the guys I meet at shows, shake hands, say "what's up?", have a short conversation with, all people that I don't even know, I owe you all a big thank you.

The HAMB family is just that, a family!

    Thanks guys.

  11. I think that someone needs to call the FBI. rod shops all over the country are getting hit with the same MO.

Shop three blocks from me got hit a couple years ago. he has three buildings less than 150 feet from his bedroom. they cleaned out all his tools (left the boxes) took equipment, then pulled dashes, carbs, then went from building to building, then cut the locks on an enclosed trailer. pulled the hood on an early vette stole the blower, injection, and the brain under the seat. must have been in there for hours. his two dogs never heard a thing.

local cops said he was the 3rd shop in a 40 mile radius that got totally cleaned out.
you know if you take that stuff cross the country to swap meets and Craigs list. the chance of finding it is nil. I think there is some out of work NASCAR or NHRA mechanics that are fast and good that travel around the country.

20 years ago I did all the glass repair on a jewelery store that got hit in daylight, came in shooting the armed security officer and one of the jewelers that went for a alarm. FBI was there and said that group was hitting major cities around the country. they knew that one person was casing these spots but sometimes took 6 months to a year before hitting. so stakeouts were useless.

sorry about your friend. my friend's homeowners policy took care of much of his personal and most of the customer cars were owner covered. He's out of business now but has a good alarm service and insurance. a tough lesson for anyone

Nothing at all, the cops said that they have a partial license-plate number off of one of the cars from the surveillance video but they can't guarantee any thing, they have a detective investigating. It's been almost three weeks, if you ask me, I think it's been to long and the car/bikes/tools/equipment are long gone at this point. At first I was hoping that somehow at least one of the vehicles would turn up, but I think it's not gonna happen. The whole thing is very frustrating and depressing. On the other hand I'm trying to figure out how to get the shop going again. One thing is for sure, I'm not staying at the same location, even though the rent was cheap that area is just a little to shady. I've looked at three shop this week where the rent was reasonable but they were to small. So I'll keep looking.

thanks Bryon, but at this point I seem to have most of the tools that I'm gonna need, That is I have friends offering to let me use their tools until I get my own again, some guys are actually donating tools and it seems that I'm pretty well covered. I just need to go pick up all the stuff from all the people as soon as I get a shop, I have no room to store all the stuff at my house.
