Leave the car alone , it looks GREAT just the way it is! I hope to own a stock chevrolet just like this one day and make it a daily driver.

There is a lot of in-between from $200 cars and this car. If you are going to cut, chop and reweld a roof panel, saying that you don't want to repair rusty floors or other panels rings hallow.

If that were my car, I might lower it the old fashion way (cut/alter the springs, maybe drop spindles if available), a different set of wheels, dual carbs and other engine mods and roll that car as a daily driver.

So in this case, I look at this as a complete waste of a nice old car. Poor Chebby :(

I'd say "lowered" cars are traditional. Bags are for groceries. The improvement in the performance of ones rig is the foundation of hot rodding and customizing. To install an air bag suspension for the "shock" value of dragging the undercarriage down the street is a foolish investment. I'm for the betterment of a vehicle through new ideas, but this site kinda has an unspoken cut-off. That said, I am by no means an authority on what flies here...but I've seen enough closed threads to understand.

    And for 49ratfink...

That would be a unpardonable sin, and total blasphemy, and you would doom you soul to the an eternal hell!!!
But anyway, thats one nice stovebolt, and if it were mine I wouldnt change anything.
To many builders out there, for bagging and chopping.
    Great looking ride, though.

what the hell is a Gt-R/?

  21. I say chop it and slam it, as alot of guys on this site do and get rave reviews how cool their cars look. I would much rather have a low slung car with a nice chop than some stock looking car. Nothing like a 1936 3 window dragging and chopped. I love the 53-54s . Id much rather have one of these than a 55-56-57. They look way better for customs. I like them and so do alot of others on here. So I say **** those that speak against you! Its your car and do what you like. If you do a good job, you will get nothing but good reviews. Already I say do it!!!!!

  22. That is a cool ride!! Too bad you ****ed it all up. It would have looked really cool sitting high with skinny tires all around. Kidding!! Awsome looking car .!!!

  23. I just read an article on a custom car that had bags installed . The article was written in 1949!!!!! Bags can and were traditional. Its just that it wasn't as common as the parts were hard to find.

See current (July '10) issue of Rod & Custom, there's a green one on the cover.

  25. That was Johnnys car on the Hamb and we got to see Gene Winfield spray it . It was incredible to watch him do his magic. He started spraying at 12:45PM and never stopped till 3:45AM in the morning!!!!!

I know air bags were installed "back in the day". Back then, it was for suspension reasons, not for dropping the car on a moments notice and grinding off the bottom inch of the car.

I'm sure GhostMN doesn't even care what we all think nor should he. His car is awesome as is. If he wants to make a custom out of it, it's a wonderful canvas to start with and he should. I wouldn't, but thats me. Again, I'm all for modernizing the mechanics of a car to better it's performance...not purely for asthetics. Now here are more cars to keep this from being a sewing circle.

  27. Looks like every car that you posted are bagged as they are pretty much on their frames. Maybe the first one isn't but if not, the bottom of the car is totally scar'd up from road rash.

  30. Here's mine. Nothing to crazy. C.E. rear springs with 3"blocks, dropped spindles with 1 coil cut. I shaved the car, welded the headlight rings and shot a Watson inspired paint job. It's pretty cool but simple. Todd
