Well I've been waiting a long time to find a good project, it turns out it was right under my nose, This car has been in my family for over 35 years, and my uncle was glad to p*** it along to someone who would keep it in the family. I've got some ideas but first things first I want to get it back on the road. its running a 283 sbc with a TH350 and a ford 9in, I would like to look into a 440 torqueflite combo down the road. When I attempted to start the car the throttle was stuck wide open (hanging up on the air cleaner that has since been removed). When I killed it I left the key on run (in the late model steering column) and it poured a cup of fuel all over the floor. Upon further inspection I found the gas was pouring right out the top of the Edlebrock carb. I believe I've tracked that to the fact that there is no pressure regulator on the Holley fuel pump. I've since sourced a used Holley pressure regulator and guage, I'm hoping to install it tomorrow. If that doesn't do the trick I will have to try to adjust the float and see what that does. Next up will be to take on the brakes. i'll keep the project posted, and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions, but I've already found tons of good info on here. I hope to go old school with this thing, I'm thinking a nice low stance and a set of steel wheels with wide whites, and or some fat cheater slicks on the rear. Thanks to you all in advance. N8
Got the pressure regulator, it fires up on the firs crank, idles like a champ. the oil pan is leaking, no big deal, I'll be removing the wheels this weekend to check out the drums, I'm looking for some brake hoses, the driver side has got a nice leak. I'm not too sure but I was told one side or another of the car has reversed thread lug nuts, I guess I'll find out. I'm so close to hitting the road I can taste it.
Driver's side has left hand thread lugs and p***enger side is standard right hand. Good luck and welcome.
Took me a while to figure out why I couldn't get the lugs off the driver side of my Plymouth. Yeah...the left-handed thing had thrown me off, too. Weird, huh? E
I would kill to have a one of these coupes. They are hard to get in Australia. I once was stripping down an old 53 plymouth and kept breaking sockets on the wheel studs. Even though I have always known about the opposite thread trick, at some time in this cars life someone had swapped the front hubs from left to right. *******s!!
Thanks for the tip, Does any body know what the spread is on the wheels. I'm going to start looking for a set of steel wheels, and I'll try to find some used ones and don't know what interchanges. Its got a ford 9" rear, and it looks like they have the same bolt patern, but I won't know till tonight when I pull the wheels.
