I am currently building a second vintage short track race car. The first one we haul in a closed trailer with all the tools needed for track days. The second one(on my wife's suggestion) we want to haul out in the open to get people to follow us to the track(I would, admit it so would you...). Being as she is the perfect wife(she does not read english so no points for this) she suggested rebuilding or recreating a vintage race hauler. I have access to a mid 60's ford flat front 5 ton truck, now all I need is the rear end. Please post pics of vintage open race haulers to give us food for thought. Thanks in advance
Sounds like fun but a 5 TON TRUCK? Done right it would be a grand hauler and service vehicle for your racer. Just get a drivetrain that's a little more modern than than baby.
Definitely a more modern engine is in the plans. We are a touring series, with races up to 400 miles away from home, so reliability is a concern for sure. I am looking for pics of the slant back style haulers.
Heres a few i found online, hope they help. I thought the last one was pretty cool(well, for a mercedes)
Thanks, the yellow and black truck is the same front end I have, now I just need to fab the back end to go with it! Please keep the pics coming.
Check out the hauler for the Golden Sahara, painted by Watson. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=382537
Scrolling through the Oval Track Modifieds post will yeild some pics of a pretty wide variety of haulers. There are a lot of posts but... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174989&highlight=modifieds
