    Hi,

I just bought a 1948 Dodge Business Coupe but I don't know too much about restoring/hot rodding cars. I was told this is *the* place to get the answers.

This car I bought is in Mississippi and I am in Rhode Island. What is the best way for me to get it? Uhaul tells me my Dodge Dakota is too small to tow this car and to rent a Uhaul truck with trailer would be about $1600. I got a quote for shipping from Auto All America for $800 door to door.

Does anyone have any advise/expericnce with shipping a car? Is the All America quote reasonable?

Thanks for bringing me onboard and thanks in advance for the advice,
    John B.

  5. That is not an unreasonable price door to door for that distance. I have used an outfit called "Car On a Truck" with good results.

    Good luck.

Welcome John, Fellow Teardropper Here. I had a truck shipped from Wilmington NC to Ct and it cost me 550.00 but it was running. What I did was I did a Internet search for vehicle shipping and got 6 quotes. Then went with the most economical. (cheap skate that I am) I will find my paper work and PM you with the name and number who hauled my truck.

Good luck and do an Intro. Post a picture to as they like that sort of thing. Hope to see you at the BS Session in Feb. Mike

Sorry about muffing the intro. I didn't know the rules.

My name is John Blewett and I live in Rhode Island. I have been messing about with teardrop trailers for about 6 years and always feel out of place at gatherings showing up with my '93 Dodge Dakota as a tow vehicle.

To remedy this I bought a '48 Dodge business coupe. It is rough shape but should be fun to restore. I don't know too much about cars other than the sandlot repairs I've had to make on my daily drivers in my younger years driving not-so-good cars. I've rebuilt a couple of VW Beetles in the past also and kept a '72 Dodge Charger running as a daily driver for 12 years.

I love to wander around the country with my teardrop trailer. Hopefully my new Dodge will become a reliable tow vehicle.

    John B.

You didn't mention if you had ideas for the Dodge. Tex Smiths Building Mopar Rods has some ideas, + a chapter that's a reprinted article from Street Rod action mag. on dropping a 318 into a 47 Plym. If interested I could post or PM highlights.

    Hi George,

I haven't really decided what I am going to do with the car but a 318 has crossed my mind.

I would really appreciate it if you posted the information, or email me a link at blewett_john@excite.com

    Thanks for the info,
    John B.

    Hi HRP,

I have pictures at www.tinytears.cc but right now nothing iw working. I just changed servers and all of a sudden the connection worked today. I still have files to fix. Check the site sometime next week and all should be working.

Greetings from a fellow MoPar Man ('48 Plymouth Convert.) A roommate in college had a '48 Dodge Busycoupe...it was the car of choice when returning beer bottles for deposit after a party. The trunk is huge!

You will find helpful info at www.p15-d24.com. 1946-48 Plymouths are "P15's" and '46-'48 Dodges are "D24's" in Chrysler's numbering system. Several posters to that board have/are converting to the 318" engine and disk brakes. The site also includes info on upgrades, and a cross reference for part numbers/ manufacturers
