There's nothing more relaxing than getting my '55 out for a drive around town. There's just something about old technology--the simplicity and feel--that makes driving a 55-year old car (almost any old car) so enjoyable. Yeah, the brakes aren't so good (all new, stock, but still not so good) and the manual steering is sloppy compared to modern cars, but the whole experience is better than anything else I can think of. (Women are fun, yes, but they tend to cost a lot more and almost always cause more problems.) My son (10) loves to go for rides and I showed him what a "banzai run" was last summer. Launch, wind it up in the gears, speed shifts, all that noise. He loves it. The smells are great too. Old leather ('60s seats), carpet, oil, racing gas (some of it unburned), carbon, rubber. My garage smells great for hours after I put the car away hot. (Hell, I even like the smell of the garage after I put the hot lawn mower away...) My favorite part about the old car experience isn't all the attention, it's the inner connection, the vibe I get from just being in the car.
