Does anyone know what kind of steering box this is, it is supposed to be a 46 ford,if that helps but I really don't know for sure. I need to find a pitman arm, and need to identify the box first. Also, can this be reversed and how, is it possible to just turn the arm to the top. Thanks

It doesn't look like a '46 Ford p***enger car to me for a couple of reasons.......First it looks like it mounts in the position it is in the pics....notice the filler plug is upright, as it should/would be.....'46 mounts with the sector shaft near verticle, not horizontal.........just occurred to me, you just said '46 Ford, and I ***umed "car"...could be '46 pickup...........I am not as familiar with those.

Looks like a mid 30's Chev (37) steering box, with a fabricated sector shaft housing.

Hnstray, I think a truck was actually what it was supposed to be, I had forgotten that. I checked there is no casting numbers or ID anywhere that I can find, to help identify. Is there a way to check spline dia and count to narrow anything down

Right on, thanks to all. I will try to locate a mid 30's pitman, if it fits I guess it really doesn't matter what the box actually is, we'll see, swap meet season is here so something will turn up

The box ended up being a old Ross box, got the pitman arm and a 2nd box at the Tulsa swap meet, Thanks to all

I have a pitman arm for that box. Just count the spline and overall diam.

It is 37 spline, and .862, I think that is 7/8 but not totally sure
