(delete if not to standard) Righto i know that alot of you have gotten cars out of woods, gullys and paddocks lets see some rigs and hear some info of what you take with you, and tips on what you do to get cars that are on the ground, to get onto a trailer etc. I normally use the "tank" trailer and forklift of my fathers but you need a rig to pull it. The thing is I'm looking at picking up a 47/48 ford pannel van- thats been taken off the ch***is and is on it's roof and i don't have axcess to a tractor at the moment! so i've got to work out how to get a dead weight flipped and onto a trailer- any ideas- pics cheers guys pic of a load- 2x46chev cabs and st mtl and a early chev pickup
without a ch***is, get about 6 good strong mates and roll her over and lift her onto some 4x4's then lift the 4x4's onto a trailer. sounds pretty beat up so rolling it back over on its bottom shouldn't damage it any more than it is. then buy your buddies a beer!
will post some pics when i get it- trying to sort out some gear to flip it over- I'd use the seven mates ideas but they're all into aussie rules football, to them cars that don't go aren't worth picking up! especiallly old cars, and the only car guys i know are in perth 230km away.- think i'll get the trailer and work something out- either that or as a last resort borrow the loader and a few ****** straps. anyway will post pics of it.
Your right about the 230km trip Tyler, i think you should organize a trip so some of us city folk can come up to your place one weekend. You can supply a sheep, roo or pig for the spit and b.y.o booze. I don't think you will have a problem in gettin a **** load of blokes up there....The only drama mate i work on sundays.I for one would love to get my hands on that 46 panel..
Y'all need a good winch to pull 'er over and back up on the bottom. A ****** block helps. And a junk late model hood under the front, smooth side down, helps skid it whereever it has to go to get to the trailer.
Best Idea, are you in a club? If so you could make it a club 'function' once the PV is retrieved you could all then go searching for other cars/parts etc. Then head home where you have a spit and some drinks laid on to pay back he help in retrieving your PV. Doc.
Build yourself a pull apart gantry and equip it with an endless chain. Use some slings under the body, hoist it up, and then if possible lower it again pulling to one side allowing it to lay on its side. Hoist it up again, and lower it again pulling to one side to "flip it upright". If you make the right width and height, you should be able to hoist it up again, and then lower it onto the trailer. I know this probable sounds complicated, but this is how we retrieved a 46 Ford ute, and a 47 ford sedan. Michael
Pull the trailer up beside it,pile old tires between it and your trailer, cable up and over the body, other end attached to a winch hooked to the far side of the trailer, winched it up and over the tires and onto the trailer....just like that!
LOL yer tony i'm thinking about getting some of the guys up for a weekend- only thing is i live with the olds- and there pretty "concervative", (old boys nightshift ATM) so will have to get it past them, Will give ya a shout if anything happens. Thanks for the ideas guys, Im thinking i'll have to borrow the ute in the pick to roll the wreck over with some tyres, poles and tow straps- still not certain on the "how to" yet. i'll do another thread and get some ideas for making a tow/crane setup for the back of my bedford truck, so i can use it in the future. cheers again guys and keep the ideas coming. oh and i'll have to get it past the missus as well LOL
rolled the car over onto some tires this afternoon! I got there and had to move a few braches but nothing too big, to get the ute in place. Chucked a strap around the end of the ch***is, which was seperate and dragged it out of the bush first, it went very easy. next drove the ute back in and positioned the ute at 90' to the van. Then spent 10 mins digging with a stick so i could close the doors so they didn't get crushed (next time i'll take a shovel). I put the trusty ****** strap onto one of the undercar mounts on the far side and, put some tyres where the fenders would hit the ground- drove the ute forward slowly which roled it easily onto the tyres- i got out and took some pics on my phone (which i can't get the ics off sorry), positioned the other tyres wor the centres- front and rear then got into the ute and drove forward again dropping it neatly onto the ground..... which meant my ****** strap was stuck under the van- ******. anyways its on its floor again ready for picking up soon. also as a side note the roof on it is apsolutly screwed. but oh well
Oh well, if the roof is stuffed you could allways make it into a roadster/convertible ute. I have an Austin A40 Devon Countryman van with a stuffed roof. One day it will be a convertible ute.
I always make sure to bring several portable air tanks with me and a good jack & stands. Shovel to dig under a tire to maybe get a flat tire to go back on the rim. Sometimes it works and it's a lot easier to roll a car on aired up tires. A saw for tree branches, cardboard to lay on, bee spray, tie wire (hoods don't always stay shut) penetrating oil, paper towels, gloves, change of clothes, drill, duct tape, whatever tools you need to disconnect a driveshaft, tape a plastic bag around the trans output to contain the oil, and enough $ to buy all the helpers lunch.
I picked up the ch***is today- I jacked it up onto blocks and tied my (salvage) trailer axel to the front spring, lifted the back of the ch***is up and slid the ch***is into the back of the ute and tied it on. then chucked the front sheetmetal off the van onto the ch***is then trailered it home, slow and steady, dirt roads all the way. will pick up the body when i can put my "log trailer" plan into action. - took some pics too.
Man that would be a cool body to do something with...too bad it sat upside down for so long, could you post some more pics of the rear and sides of the body? Might be something to use an old 4 door for around here to build a loose copy of. What are your plans for this ol girl?
plans are to just chuck it in the paddock with the rest of my stuff- may use the doors, grille and gaurds on another project in the future. will put some more photo's up on my photobucket for you later on today. http://s277.photobucket.com/albums/kk53/tylerae40/wrecks/ photo's are up.
hey kool kemp i know of a place that has solid cars here in Pennsylvania maybe i can trailer one up to you or stick it on a boat and float it up to your island http://www.facebook.com/photo_search.php?view=all&oid=126275827383148
