I took some pics at Knoxville this afternoon, supposedly this facebook link to my picture album will let anyone see them, member/fb 'friend' or not: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2042482&id=1167939493&l=7fd3bf92e0 I hope youse guys enjoy them This the first NSRA show I've ever been to. With this 30 year cutoff deal it appeared to me to be roughly 70/30 as far as car years go... Al (slightly sunburned) in TN
Thanks for the pictures. I see the Easter egg colors are as popular in TN as here In Missouri. I'd much rather see a nice Camaro, Mustang, Nova, etc than the half *** Rat rod stuff, so the 30 year cutoff doesn't bother me. Dean
Amen on the rat sh.. I've seen good cars screwed up . There was a nice variety of "later" stuff there.
No one ever accused me of being a purist; there was some nice newer stuff there for sure. I'd rather see a 55 Chevy or nice Chevelle any day over a billet laden highboy, that's for sure. My camera battery died, I could have easily doubled the pics I took. Grabbed things that caught my eye, had a nice, relaxing afternoon there Al in TN
From viewing the pictures I get the idea that it was very much like a scaled down Goodguys event. True? Frank
I suppose. The only GG event I ever saw was at Indy, but I was sponsoring a burnout contest for the Nostalgia Funny Cars so I stayed in the Pits/Track all day. There was a good mix there yesterday, a little something for everyone's tastes IMHO but street/hot rods were definitely greatest in numbers by far. I saw only one obvious protester there, took a pic: I didn't see any other signs like this, but I think I missed a section of cars on my way back through to where I started. There were quite a few trucks, both before and after 1949 model years. I didn't expect to see so many..... Al in TN
Thanks for posting.I was planning to go but missed another one when I was reminded of a previous promise to help someone move.
Not quite a BAD ... but close. I saw a LOT of POS rides that looked like they had just escaped from the " Cash for Clunkers " back lot. I think the count was down ALSO I did not take ANY pictures ... But I did see a couple vehicles that were photo worthy in my book. Saw quite a few rides that ... were just plain old wore out 4 door junkers ( 1960's/1970's ) and one sorry *** late 70's Ford Fairmount with 1200 hundred dollars worth of stickers. Some looked like it was a miracle that they made it to the event ... if they lived more than 15 miles from Knoxville.
I live in middle TN.I drove over and ran around there for a few hours.Attendance seemed lower but then there was a horendus front moving through today towards there. Both interstates heading into Nashville are shut down beacause of flooding. I think a lot of people figured it was not a good weekend for cruising.I heard people at the meet talking about it too.
I mentioned in another post that I spent a few hours there.I missed all of the 4 door clunkers .Actually a some of the the 48 and earlier cars were faux (gl***) or rats. There was a good amount of nice cars, period. I felt attendance was down because of a pending storm that was coming in. Here are some pix of what I saw. Nice shoeboxes Subtle chops give these the right at***ude. This was in the swapmeet.A runner and some nice mods (juice brakes, later motor) $12,000. I'm glad I already had two cars....... Love those 46-48 Converts Nice Stude. A couple of rat trucks. The Jeep was actually part of a two story trailer display you could buy. Nice Olds Cars like this are pretty nice. How much of it is pre 2000 though? This is really a great venue fo ra meet. Once I lived a few miles from there.I'm glad to see it has survived. As I mentioned, there is a serious front moving towards there.I'm in middle TN. and they have closed down all of the Interstates because of flooding. I think the forcast may have been put a dampner on the event. Here's middle TN on Sat. afternoon. Wanna drive your car through this?
great show, i like seeing all the differant cars. i did see a new corvette with body mods to look like a 53 corvette, that ****ed.
I have seen those at Autofair in Charlotte. I like them.I think they look better than a stock Corvette of that year.
Yep,but would you go to a major event if the sky was going to come unglued during it? I'm just saying that it may have affected some folks attendance.
Al, glad to see you appreciated my old T Coupe. If I can ever settle down and only work on one project I'll get the louvers punched in the hood sides and install them. Had a good time meeting everyone at the HAMB get together. See you all next year if I don't do like my Late Wife and check out first.
I did I drove 265 miles ... All I am saying is that MOST folks are already committed to going ... OR STAYING HOME ... at least a week ahead of the event. The rain forecast MAY have hurt the spectator gate ... on Saturday. I believe the main factor in non attendance was the new 30 year sliding rule for entry. A LOT of the long term rodders did not go in protest. I, myself had no intentations of going but the WIFE changed ... my mind for me. She enjoys going the Pigeon Forge and really campaigned for the trip. So we went. I registered Thursday afternoon late and went Friday. I was #1908 late Thursday afternoon. I saw a 2256 number on Friday afternoon. I thought NATS SOUTH ****ed so bad on Friday ... I stayed in Pigeon Forge Saturday and gave my ****ons and sticker to a guy who worked @ the motel. He had a Maverick he is proud of. I hope he had a good time. The rain has slacked off ... Driving home in the rain tommorrow ...
Pretty much guaranteed rain every year for GG Columbus and the James Dean/Ducktail Runs. Still great shows. Wouldn't be the same without the water...I wonder what it'd be if the sun would shine all day. Had a friend from TN come up for the Springfield swap one year and then the Ducktail the next. Rained both occasions. He couldn't really believe how many folks showed up.Tomorrow is never a certain thing, y'gotta live it today.
Have a safe trip. We had two people drown on the Interstate here. Creeks are now rivers. Several highways are shut down.
Politics on the 30 year deal and weather aside, I really enjoyed the show on Friday and am already looking forward to next year. The weather did keep me from going to Rockingham for a funny car show yesterday though. Turns out it was nice over there. There seemed to be a lot of people from eastern TN there this weekend, I hope to see you guys around. Is there a regular local cruise night people down here attend? Up in CT I used to go to Bristol, CT about every other Saturday night (www.BristolAutoClub.com). Speaking of local - There was a truck from Powell (where I live now) at the show. Is this person a HAMBer too? That was on a truck that was I think 7th in order of the pic's I posted. Al in TN
I went down Thursday and left the show around noon yesterday. The addition of later model cars made the deal a little different for me. I thought the numbers were down but one of the NSRA guys told me they were at about normal numbers by Saturday morning. If that is the case, this 30 year deal was a wash between lost entries and added entries, at least for this year. I also thought the vendors and the swap vendors were down. In the end I enjoyed myself. I just am not sure of making it a for sure event year after year as I have done for 7-8 years as a result of the new cutoff. Just another case of economics changing our world..
I had a good time,,got to see some old friends and make a few new ones,,missed seeing a few guys that decided that they were not going to return because of the new 30 year rule. These guys have made a decision not to go and I respect their right to do so,,It's still a free country. I have been a participant at the NATS SOUTH every year for the last 30 years in a row and have seen a lot of changes,,this one was/is a biggie! Due to the NSRA's date for the NATS SOUTH next year I will miss my first one in many years,,It is slated for Mothers Day weekend,,and my wife is in the Floral Business so we won't be present for 2011 but if all goes well we will be back in 2012. HRP
Wow! That's a worse ratio than I thought it would be! I expected maybe 15% post-1948 cars there the first year.
Wow... I seen this car in Pigeon Forge Thurs...or Friday. Had to been the same car. How often do you see one of these? Wife and family were in Gatlingburg/Pigeon Forge over the weekend. Tons of old cars up there.
I would think it was less than 10%,,, If the Hot Rod Gods allow it that just might happen,,I told Dave he could drive my truck next year if he hasn't finished his., HRP
That was my impression on Friday afternoon (only). In pretty much every row of cars there would be a handful of post-49 cars and/or trucks mixed in so I guestimated it to be 70/30. There were still several empty parking spots on Friday so it may have changed over the weekend ratio-wise. Regardless, I had a good time there and am really looking forward to Knoxville 2011. With any (business) luck the rest of this year I might even be able to participate instead of just spectate Al in TN
I guess us 1952-56 Ford guys must be the "red headed stepchild" I looked thru all 100+ pictures and not a one in sight See any HRP?
