    guys,
in my 57 i currently am running a 1980 1/2 ton rear with 5x5 lug pattern. the overall width is 65 inches. that, and the lug pattern has limited me in my wheel width and selection. most of the wheels i like are for 5x4.750 bolt patterns out of a car.

so my question is, what style rear housings are you guys running ? camaro, chevelle, etc ?

i am doing my homework and have a line on a rear form a 70 chevelle that is 62 inches wide, gaining me 1.5 inches on each side, allowing me to use a deeper dish wheel of my choice.

i want to stick with the leaf spring setup.

just curious what you guys are running ?

    thanks much.

dang dudes, thanks for the fast info.... greatly appreciated.
i am currently stuck with a 15x7 wheel with 4.5 backspace. i want the car rear with 4.750 pattern and narrower so i can run deeper dish wheels.. i will also search for s-10 rears.... thanks again.

    A 70 to 81 Camaro/Firebird rear end is 62.5 inches wide.

The same width as a 70 Chevelle. :)
But the Camaro/Firebird rear end is a leaf spring rear end from the factory.

The Camaro/Firebird rear end does NOT have all the ugly brackets and such on it

The 10 bolt ones are plentiful ... the 12 bolt ones are harder to come by.

I'm running a 10 bolt from a Firebird in my 58 pickup. Works great.

  11. I'm using a 99 s10 4x4 4 door rear. It has a limited slip with disc brakes. I'm running 15x10 with n50 x 15's. I had to do small tubs but they work out ok.

Why not try an adaptor to run the wheels you want? I ran 2.5" spacers for two years before I tubbed mine. Never much weight in the rear.

I'm running a '57 Chevy p***enger car rear in my '59 Apache. Works great and my 15x10 chrome reverse wheels are perfectly centered in the fenders.

thanks much guys. i will search for the older camaro/firebird rears first, or even the s-10's, since they have the leaf mounts already. less work.
now you guys got me wanting to mini tub it also. LOL.

Read an article, and saw one done. Took 2 short sides of a 1963 ford 9 inch. basically came up with a narrowed 9. Used 1970 inner bed wheel well parts to "tub" the back. Looked similar to the yellow bed above!
