So kinda out of the blue, I sold the Modified. It's new owner is Ryan (61conti on the board), a cool guy down in Austin. He picked the car up last Thursday and my pocket has been on fire ever since! I had a few parts laying around...9" rear, F1 column, Model A front wishbone, plenty of wheels, front brakes, etc. Brought home a set of '32 rails and front crossmember from work too. So I had a decent base but no body. I searched around for a few different things before I decided to go this route. I had looked at this body last October but didn't have the money at the time....now it's in my garage! The cowl and doors are very nice. It's all sitting on a brand new set of subrails. The quarter panels are pretty bad...before I bought it I had decided to made another RPU out of this body because of their condition, but have changed my mind. I can't make myself deprive this world of a legitimate roadster. Plans are pretty simple, nothing as unique as the the last one was but still cool. Obviously on a '32 frame. The drivetrain will disappoint many I'm sure, but unless something else comes along cheap and soon I'm stuck with it. I've got a bunch of other parts I'd been collecting since I got the last one on the road, and am collecting more still. Pate was a great swap meet today! Anyway, stay tuned. I'm hoping to have this one on the road asap. The 2010 Invasion is September 4th.....
I have never seen the "curtain wells", under the front seat,(the floor dips down) of the roadsters. Does yours have them still? Would you bless me with a pic, if yours are still intact? I am collecting parts also, & would love to build a 30-31 Roadster. Great start!
Now that is neat! I was wanted a Coupe as my next project but now I am kind of leaning towards a roadster!
Not sure what part you are talking about. Mine has a complete reproduction subrail/floor piece though, and it is flat without the seat riser. There are a couple pictures of the rest of it all here. http://www.thefidgiter.com/1930a/
Surprised you sold the Modified but the new roadster will be a fun project. Looking foward to the progress!
Mine had it in it but since I added rear legs to my '32 Kmember, I had to remove it and put a flat floor in. I think I still have it, but it's kinda crunchy and bent up. Fidgiter, it's basically a small recessed area under the seat to store the side curtains when they're not in use. Cad power sounds good! Those Excelsiors? I had them on my '34, nice tires... They're actually round and they look cool too!
cool man I wish I had a roadster like that kindof been looking but not to hard still gotta get the coupe running GOOD LUCK will be watching this one for sure!
Yeah, in my experience, they're a good tire. I would have run them on my own '31 roadster, but they don't make a large 16" rear for some reason. Anyhow, I'll be watching yer build. Carry on...
