Really close call. Hope he gets back in shape quickly. Check your taller furniture in your house too. A couple weeks back, my 3 year old son climbed up the front of his tall dresser in his room to get the clock on top. He knocked the clock off and broke it and I asked him how he did it and he showed me. Quickly seeing what could have gone real bad, I immediately went and got a strap and screwed it to the wall. Fortunately, he is too young to get into the locked shop area for now by himself, but I'll have to do some preventative stuff like that in there too when he gets old enough to try to get in when I am not around. I remember all the stuff I did when I was little, and yes, it's a miracle I am still here. Could have easily taken myself out numerous times. Hopefully I can teach him enough along the way to not make the same mistakes I did and watch out for others before he has to also learn the hard way on his own. No way to prevent everything, but good to do whatever you can. Despite what some people might think, kids don't deserve to learn a lesson by seriously hurting themselves, even if it is only a remote chance. Kids have a way of pretty much guaranteeing the remote chance will happen.
Glad to here your son will be okay. He got that one out of the way - probably won't have it happen again. The important part in all this - ARE THE LOUVERS OKAY?! Just kidding, hope all turns out okay!
might be a good idea to put a redhead in the floor. screw an eye bolt into that and an eye bolt screwed into the bottom of the rollaway.then connect a turn buckle between them.
Wow! Glad your kid is ok. I would think that locking the box would be the best idea for many, many reasons. As that kid gets older I would be more afraid of him using your screwdrivers for tent stakes and your pliers to threaten the neighborhood kids!
Sounds to me like the kid is already a hot rodder and is just eagerly trying to get in the tool box to start wrenching!
A couple years ago the 2 year old son of one of my wife's co-workers was killed when he pulled a TV on top of himself. It was sitting on a table with a cloth under it at the grandmothers house. The little boy pulled on the cloth while un attended, and the TV landed on him breaking his neck. Don't forget your air compressors either. I stopped my 3 year old brother (27 years ago)from pulling the trigger on and air hose nozzle stuck in his nose with 125psi in the tank. We've all been there and experienced the bangs and bruises ourselves, be vigalent with your young ones.
my two year old is a climber.........everything is bolted down or anchored to a wall. My wife says I'm paranoid...........
No doubt, ain't that the truth. He could've done what my big bro did when we were little ****s. Took all of the screwdrivers out(at least 50 or 60 of them) and drove every single one into the ground. Just deep enough to be found by...the lawnmower. Talk about flying projectiles! Yea, he locked it up after that. Glad to hear he's ok. Crazy **** happens sometimes. Time for a toolbox kickstand.
Whats with that ? Everytime I talk about "safety first" my wife rolls her eyes, do girls not get that **** can go wrong? My two year is like a tasmainian devil, and she loves the garage. I have to lock the door now to keep her out.
Glad he's ok.....same exact thing happened to me 34 years ago.....I pulled the bottom drawers so I could get something out of the top and the whole thing came over on me, I think I was about 6 at the time and was lucky enough nothing happened, not sure how because the guys in the shop had to lift it off me. Good idea for somebody.....design & market a safety strap to sell to Snap On and others.
Yikes! Glad he'll be ok. My kid is 18 months. He is just learning to climb. I have been putting off attaching our bookcases to the wall. Never thought about a toolbox tipping!
Good thing hes a tough little gangster, glad hes okay but where the hell was the baby sitter, playing X-BOX ? keep things locked up you was a kid once too.
And it doesn't help when my 4 year old daughter says, "Hey Griffy, you should jump down the stairs.", and some other interesting things.
Glad he will be O.K. My old man would have left it just as is so when I healed up enough I could put everything bad where it belonged. He had a saying "I didn't **** it up, I ain't cleaning it up, you best get busy".
That just made me sick... And not knowing you, I never realized your were a doctor, always just firgured it was a nickname...that's a scary scan...impressive that it was repairable. I just invested in a large roll around and top box, which will now be bolted together, and to the wall.
Might have been covered already, but it would be worth your time to also put a chain on the back of both boxes and chain them to the wall. Same logic you would do for bookshelves and entertainment centers in the house. Tight enough that it never gets close to tipping over
Hate to be a scare ****er, but these new flat screen TV's are a problem just waiting to happen too, especially those mounted on wall brackets. If they can reach them, they can pull them down.... I've got 7 grandkids, you can't be everywhere at once, so you got to be ready....
a 9 year old full of piss and vinegar is a healthy kid! Good on him he's got curiosities and ambitions! My daughter's always been like that. Harder to deal with, but will grow up to rock this world!
My attorneys secretary snapped one of her arms in half when the file cabinet flipped forward with her arms deep inside reaching for a file. There's lot's of weight in paper and that cabinet was only screwed to drywall!
