The last chromes I bought were on sale for $9.99 each at K-Mart. Of co**** that was a days pay......for one wheel. Things haven't changed much.

    You live in Whittier California.
You don't want to pay Summit's prices.
You want YOUR wheels chromed, thinking it MIGHT be cheaper.
You MIGHT be willing to pay the cost of shipping your wheels from Cali to Texas on the possibility of having them chromed.

I'd say chance the border, grab your p***port and take them to Mexico........just don't stop to get drunk and dance half **** in your spring break bikini.=O) Or buy them new from one of the alliance vendors, by the time you add up shipping, fuel, chroming, time spent for h***ling, blah blah blah, then you have your new wheels.

    Maximum efficiency.

It's because I really want to see his bikini strut. =o)

No really I have to do this stuff all day long and sometimes it's cheaper to go the way I was trying to avoid. I can't balance my own check book but when it comes to over extending shop budget on parts, I look at and evaluate every option possible....my guys like it when they get new umbrellas, welders, water jugs, etc and that **** doesn't get included in my annual budget.

I ***ure you that the $999.00 price from Summit is a typo, as alot of the wheels have that price, including singles. I have bought the chrome OEM wheels from Summit, and they were about $129.99 each.

Would that be the Orange County Plating that 'lost' all the stainless trim off my '58 Chrysler and basically told me 'tough luck' and refused to reimburse me a cent for my parts?

Thanks for all the helpful information everybody.
I'll be honest about the summit price mix up. A couple months back I saw that they were selling WV chrome OEM's in there catalogs. So I went online and I put in the info on the size and bolt pattern that I wanted and the $999.95. came up.I said WTF and didn't even bother to look any further.
So pretty much thats why I though taking them to a chrome shop would be more convenient if I had the stock wheels to chrome. But thats not gonna work out either.I don't want to pay more and run out in a bikini and dance.

Have you checked on having them done in Spectra Chrome? Looks just like the real deal.

Glad to hear you're re-thinking chroming; sorry to hear about the bikini strut.

Shop around, you'll be happier in the long run.

I have often wondered about this Spectra chroming as well, anyone have any stories to tell about this process? Good or bad? Looks good in their sells pitch...

If you use the search function, I recall seeing several threads on that stuff float across the board. Guys who wanted to know versus guys who did know....I'm with Z, I just can't see it being hard enough for wheels.....maybe a lesser part, but I don't know I've never seen it in real life.

Pico Wheel in Van Nuys used to do them, I haven't been there in 8 years or so though, At the time it was about the same as buying new rims, but who knows now... Worth it if you want a period perfect car with authentic rims. I hate the new smoothie rims on older cars, they look 70's to me. I love to see rims on a car that are made up from real old centers and hoops, (the bevel on old Buick rims is so nice!)

And geez, spelling corrections on the HAMB? Why start now? Haha!
