Posting these picks of a friends build I've been helping with. Started out as a 1931 Sport Coupe that he bought back in the early to mid 80's. He has had this on the backburner, buying up parts while many other projects have come and gone. He recently retired and decided it was time to build it.
He removed the body and only kept the cowl forward and fenders and has made everything else from scratch. I'll try to post pics as it gets closer to completion, but all I have now is the initial mock up and parts going back on, since fenders have returned from paint. Hope you enjoy.

No drawings. He had a picture of a stock Model A Woody to go off as far as getting the proportions right, but outside of that, he had it all in his head. I personally have been very impressed as this is his first build from scratch.

Updates from today. Got the cowl on and some of the wood bracing that ties the cowl to the wood body. Also got the gas tank in and rear spreader bar. Placed a tag on he had laying around, to make sure it look centered on the spreader bar. Sorry for the poor pics, the garage space is really too tight for getting good pics and a cell phone camera doesn't help the quality either.

On a separate note thought some of you might like to see what he had in his shop today. He does upholstery work and the man brought it in for a headliner repair and before he left he had decided to redo the whole interior. I thought the interior was killer as is, distressed red "leather" and houndstooth. In my opinion I wouldn't have changed a thing. The car was a driver rather than a show car which made it that much more appealing.

looks great, I want to build a woody using a 30 ford cowl. I have some plans I got a few years ago, I want it to be my retirement project, and that's in 1 1/2 years. So any pictures on how you did the wood work?

  12. Looks like nice woodwork. I had the same thing planned years ago when I stumbled onto my Touring body. Now I have a 29 Closed cab pickup and cant see parting it out for a Woody!

Woody project looks great! I hope you can shop around and find a large size piano hinge something along the lines of an original A woody hinge. Saw an original 30-31 woody cowl at a swapmeet this weekend and thought of this project.

KAUI, when I go back next week, I'll try to get some close up pics of some of his woodwork. I had nothing to do with that part, so I can't answer too many questions as this is a friends build, I'm simply helping out and doing more of the metal stuff. If you want pics of anything in particular just let me know and I'll try my best.
