been awhile sense i have been on the board, but i have a question. got a 60 f100 and there is about a foot of play, if not more, in the steering wheel. there is no more adjustment left in the box and its been getting worse and worse.

i have seen rebuild kits, and new/rebuilt boxes for sale, but i have also seen individual parts of the rebuild kits for sale.

so my question is where is the cheapest place to get either a kit or a new/rebuilt box? is there a part inside that typically wears out (so maybe i can just replace that to save some $$?) and how big of a pain is it to just rebuild it myself?

as for the brakes, my master cylinder was leaking so i put in a rebuild kit. i filled up the reservoir now the cylinder wont pump fluid at all, if someone pumps the brakes and i put my finger over the brakeline fitting it will build up air pressure but no fluid comes out......not a drop. any tips on that one?!

thanks for the help, i have searched and found nothing so far.

Redline - I have a 1961 f100 unibody that has so-so steering too ..... I have looked at redheadsteeringgears - don't know about price but they look like they know what they are doing.

I rebuilt my own. I had to buy a worm gear, a gasket kit, and a couple of bronze bushings. I work in a factory with a machine shop, so I was able to use the press to get the old worm gear off and the new one on, and a hone to open up the bushings to where they needed to be. If you don't have access to stuff like that, it wouldn't be too much to have a local shop do it, still cheaper than buying one outright. Open yours up, check out all the parts, then make the decision. As for the brakes, did you bench bleed the master?
