What is the simplest or usual way guys fit 53 Cad wheel covers to other wheels? In my case I want them on my 52 Chev.

    Thanks

    Pete

  2. 2 guys told me they attatch 70 Z28 or mid 80's S10 Blazer trim rings ( The very shallow style trim rings) to the back side of the Caddy wheel covers.
You can pop rivet them or possibly use stainless mig wire and carefully tack them all around.
Sounds goofy I know but it worked for them.

I don't have commercial caps. I have the other kind. :(

  6. I recall a tech or two on this, a search may help. Pretty sure it was 53's too, there are several on the sombreros (same principals).

Spent about 1/2 hr searching before I posted. I can imagine a few solutions to this as per those above but I'm just checking if there is a common method before I start cutting.

OK, I spent some more time searching and found a number of threads on the subject.

Most of them suggest using 15" beauty rings inside the 53 Cad covers. There are a variety of methods to do this as I found. A good one was using 2 part panel epoxy to avoid any welding.

My favourite one is this one:

I thought it was worth linking here for future reference or for anyone else searching. I found an awful lot of threads that said "There's a good tech article on here somewhere, do a search".

Anyhow after a lot of searching I have my answer. Thanks guys.

I think I like the method where the beauty ring fits under the original lip on the wheel cover, but just for a bit of extra security I might run a bead of epoxy in there as well.

I wear a belt and braces too ;)

  14. Glad you found it, that sounds like the one I was thinking of.

I have a front frame graft with late model disc brakes so that's not a problem. I bought some 15" beauty rings with good, removable snap rings (?) in them. I've shelved the project for now but I'll be fitting those snap rings into the lip on the Caddy caps. Wait and see...it'll be good.

    Pete,
I just bought a set myself. I'm looking forward to seeing how your project turns out.
Would you mind posting a few pictures?
    Thanks,
    Joel
