I had a customer report this to me.

He bought a spray gun from me on EBay and went to pay for it. PayPal rejected his payment; he tried twice more with no luck.

The next day his bank calls him and asks if he has been using his card a lot.

It turns out PayPal nicked his card for 40 ****ing times to a tune of over $4000.

He gets nowhere by trying to contact them online but his bank comes up with a phone #. Pay Pal says they had a "software problem" and woud refund his money in 3-5 business days! Can you believe that ****? The *******s are kiting his money and collecting interest for a week or so.

He happens to be Canadian, I doubt if he has any cross border recourse to go after them.

I bet many others got ****ed at the same time.

  3. Guess I'm glad I booted from paypal... But they aren't the only ones.

Verizon did the same thing to us. Took 600 bucks when they shoulda took 150. Then said, it could be up to 6 weeks to get it back, because of a computer glitch.

Maybe it's the newest "corporate scam". Take money, hold it til the interest quarter is over, then give it back.

    ****.

Sorry to hear about your bud.

I've been getting emails from Paypal requiring info, correct logo, official looking. They want all kinds of personal info, acc.no.s, etc. or they're going to close my account. Funny thing is I don't have an account with them and never have. Maybe the problem with their software is someone else is accessing the accounts.

That's called a phishing scam. basically somebody completely unrelated to PayPal, or Chase Manhattan, or whatever financial ins***ution, sends out spam saying your account will be terminated unless you provide so much of the sensitive information that you know you shouldnt give out. but they direct you to websites of their own that look a lot like Paypal's, Chase Manhattan's, whoever's, so they get the pertinent info. I get about three of those emails a week.

If it werent for them I wouldnt have been able to get my money or my parts! Oh well I guess theres good and bad everywhere. Hope it works out.

Yeah, that recently got settled. They were taking the same 3-5 day **** to transfer funds into the sellers account, again skimming the interest. I filed my own complaint with the NH Attornery General about that last year. Got several calls and letters that said they were aware of it and were taking action.

You want to see some of their ****, check out www.paypal****s.com

Its usually the sellers who get screwed, we have virtually no recourse against s*** bag buyers. Ive been nailed a few times but I always get even. Ive a good friend who is a collection attorney. He sends them a letter and if no reply then they get a bad credit mark; that ****s them up for 7 years.

Wow. They are wanting me to go from credit card to direct bank withdrawal (to them) and I've been thinking of doing it just to get "confirmed" as I am now "unconfirmed." This is scary. After I spend another $70 I'm out of luck using PP and have to go to bank withdrawal. Any alternative? More and more sellers are specifying pp only.

Can someone explain the verification thing to me? It seems like just another way to attach themselves to my finances. They keep sending me emails that I've almost reached my sending limit for a certain period without being verified.
I might have to let the paypal payment option go.

Went through that verification **** about a year ago. For some odd reason , they want to transfer the payment money out of your checking account instead of using your credit card.

I just did the verify thing, and everytime I make a payment, under the payment options I choose credit card.

I made a **** load of payments out of my checking account when first verified, and the bank notified me it was a Federal violation to make more than 6 E-transfers per month! Don't know if that's true, but I just use my credit card, so far so good.-MIKE [IMG]

I seem to recall a time, before computers....B.C. if you will, when we sold all our unwanted **** at the swap meet, or through the newspaper. Now we have the 'convenience' of networking with individuals across the globe through this CRT you're looking at right now. Inevitably there will be an element of thieves who'll work this system to their advantage. I've never ripped anyone off, as best as I can tell, but many others have.
It's impossible to gauge the depth to which these charlatans will dive, all I know is that it was much better to horse trade with a guy when you could hold the items he was selling in your hands, and also to be able to look the mother****er in the eye. You can't look at a seller's ID in the eye, you also can't look at the unscrupulous **** bags lurking behind.

    Good luck.

    Welcome to the modern world.

But what is to stop you from opening another Paypal account with a different email address ?

its kinda weird, I have had no problems with them in the couple of years I have used em even from over here....
with the direct debit thing, we can do iinternet banking directly over here, un fortunatly only within the country so far but I have people pay me all the time that way, its way better no third party taking a skim etc, I guess you have to be confidant to give your a/c number out etc but its all protected.

It's not odd that they want you to use your checking instead of credit card because Pay Pal is the merchant that has to pay the credit card use fee for each transaction.

plus like you guys said, Pay Pal might also be skimming the interest with the checking account payments...

    You mean "GAY-PAL"?
They won't let both my wife and myself be "verified" with the same joint checking account! I told them that after 25 years, if she was going to run off with that, let her. I told the idiot that I always pay by credit card anyway and for good reason: some SOB in Colorado fleeced me on some flathead pistons, and Gay-Pal wouldn't do ****. Fortunately MC would and I got a refund.

I worked in the credit card processing industry for years. It is NOT uncommon to have that happen. There really are only a FEW credit networks. It happens to all of them, server outtages, hiccups, power hits, name it. Software is NOT error proof. I don't understand the amount of time it would take them to get a credit, but think of it like this, Banks, credit networks LOVE to take your $ and ALL of them are SLOW to return it.

a good alternative to paypal is Western Union Bidpay, i don't use it myself, but i have had Ebay buyers use it, it will give you the protection buyers are looking for, but doens't require the reciever to be registered, the person SENDING the money has to be registered, then western union handles the transaction, the seller gets a check in the mail from Western union. i don't remember the exact details, but it removes the risk of sending money to someone you don't know.

  23. I have had a Scandinavian buyer that over paid shipping waiting for his Rebate for several months. PAYPAL ****s! I have tried several times. I am not a dumb*** on computers but if you happen to change computers or credit cards, updating the info blows ***!

I just don't understand how Paypal works, a Money order or check turns into cash in my hand at the bank or postoffice. How do I get the "Paypal Account" funds turned into cash, and how much do I loose to Paypal on $100.00? What is the benifit of spending user fees to Paypal and getting $90.00 whatever in place of your $100.00? [IMG]

PayPal doesn't charge anything for the bank transfer. That is how I pull all my money. I use a debit/credit card off a different bank account although you might be able to use it off the same account. I don't leave more than a hundred bucks or so in either account just in case some scammer gets his fingers on my account info. 2 years and I have never had a problem although it does take a while to learn how their system works with the verified buyer thing. You have a bunch of options on how you accept payments and you can refuse to take the hit for the credit card merchant services if you aren't a commercial concern and just have a lower level account. The only thing that tightens my jaw is that they can take my money from my bank account in seconds but take 3-4 "working days" which is more like a week, to transfer it over to me when I do a withdraw. I consider the risk worth it since I don't have to set at a swap meet all weekend trying to sell my **** for a third of what it will bring on ebay.Even most of the stuff I offer here first always brings more on ebay. I recently brought half a load of **** home from a meet, that didn't sell. I had many items that I got more than double for on ebay of what I was asking at the swap meet where it didn't sell.
There are a good many sellers on ebay that only take money orders but I think you are shooting yourself in the foot to do that. I mostly only buy stuff that I can use PayPal to pay for since I have to go to the grocery store to get a money order then get it mailed if I am working steady. And that is a P.I.T.A.
I am considering getting a PayPal debit card so I can pull the money as soon as the buyer pays instead of waiting for the transfer.

I think some of you guys are over-racting.
Why would you cancel your PayPal account if you got spammed by an unrelated phishing expedition?

PayPal is now owned by Ebay. Ebay makes enough money legally; it doesn't need to resort to outright theft.

I'm sure that some (relatively small) number of people have been screwed over, but I haven't. (Knock on wood!)

No pay-pal acct, No debit card, No cell phone, No beeper, most of the time I don't even wear a watch.I don't borrow money,so I don't write checks, utility bills and insurance come right out of checking, and if the boss didn't make me have direct deposit I would still be getting a real paycheck.I have a charge acct. at the hardware store and if I'm short of funds I can just sign my receipt at the grocery store and pay it tomorrow.
Maybe I'm out of touch, yep I'm definately out of touch. Or maybe out to lunch!!! your choice.

I have used paypal for 3 or 4 years now.
Use it for buying and selling, as well as international transfers between myself and my office and my English suppiers.
Used it for all sorts of deals.
    Never had a problem.
I suppose it will happen one day, but I can recommend paypal as straight dealing, economical and easy to use.
Always had a problem with banks and every type of money transfer system there is at sometime, but I don't dump a bank because they foul up occasionaslly.
    No business is 100% efficient.
I like paypal and will continue to use and recommend it.
But I ignore every request for personal info, whether it's from ebay, paypal or anyone else that asks me to go to a site by a hyperlink.
I go through the normal routes and check my accounts when I feel it is necessary, which is very rarely.
Used properly it's a good tool.
