I was just sent a very real looking message supposedly from eBay. It said I was chosen as a finalist to win a new Viper. All I had to do was click on their link. It had a misspelled word and I thought the whole thing was goofy. I wonder what I would have got if I clicked. BEWARE!
can you post us the link? it can't harm anything if you don't download a file or fill our your personal info.... i want to check it.
If you go to ebay (www.ebay.com) and click on "Security," there is a request to forward that kind of message to them. The instructions are there also.
This scam has been out there for at least a month. I saw it being discussed on ebay seller discussion boards in early December.
scam@ebay.com just foreward anything suspicious, especially if it is asking for any sensative info. They will email you back and tell you if it originated from them or not.
If you do a lot of eBay & PayPal, it's worth the trouble to download eBay's toolbar. It has an "account guard" section that turns red if you're on a spoof site & green if you're on a legit eBay/PayPal site. It's free & jsut takes up a line on the top of your browser...if you do a lot of it, like I do, it's worth it. Also, if you do go to one of the spoof sites, it will prompt you to report it to eBay & it's all automatic, so you don't have to email them a thing...
