I was talking with a guy today and we got to talking about rods and unusual engine setups etc ... Anyhoe he told me that in the early '60s Ford made an industrial/marine intake for the SBF (221 and/or 260 I would imagine) that consisted of 2 1 barrel carbs inline. So I guess I am asking these questions, 1. Is that true ? 2. If so are they hard/expensive to find ? 3. Can you run them on the street, would they be a good mild engine intake ??? Thanks, ScottV
Ditto on the inline 4-bbl.. Not many of those were sold from Fords. It be cool to have if you ever got it to run right.
I'm no expert, but I was an engineer at Ford's R&E Center in Dearborn for 31 years, mostly in the Engine Performance Development Group, working on V8s. I do not recall ever seeing any 2 x 1 intakes for any Ford V8, and I saw (and coveted) a lot of weird stuff in that time.
Might posssibly of been 2X2's like the earlier Yblocks had, but I've never saw of heard of an intake like that. Michael
Dearborn Marine used 2x1 manifolds on the 292 and 312 Ford V-8's. Carburetors were Carter type YH. http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/MarinekitsD.htm#MkitDear We have at least one of the manifolds (somewhere). Cannot say about the engines in question. Jon. Jon.
Don't think that would have been done on the small block Henry. By 1962 when the Small Block came out, it was general consensus that there were far better carb setups for V8's than multiple one or even two barrels.
