I just bought a 1938 Ford Truck! all the parts are there and in great shape, except the motor. Been working on this deal for a few days. I will post more pics when I get it home this afternoon. Best part, I paid $900.
sweet deal a 38-39 ford is probably the best looking truck ever made in my opinion. someday ill find one to build.
Damn how did I miss that! next Ill find out it was right in my back yard almost.......I need to get out more...good score..!!!
So nice looking!!! Any motor you put in that thing it'll still be cool. A 283 Chevy, 303 Olds, 331 Cadillac, Flathead......take your pick!!!
I showed the picture of your truck to Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup, and she was quite impressed, as was Ozelle the '55 Ford. Both send friendly and congratulatory horn honks. I admit being partial to the '38-'39 trucks, of course I've had mine since 1966 when I was 14 years old. Not to rub it in or anything, but I only paid $15 for Henrietta (s**** metal man was offering $10). Of course that was 44 years ago. Looks like you've got a pretty solid old truck, and more complete than what I started with. What does the lettering on the door of your truck say? I love the look of a truck lettered for some business. Henrietta is lettered as a shop truck for Drake Motor Co., the Ford dealer here 1928-1956. Phone 13, their actual phone number back in the day.
That is a hell of a score, '38-'39 is my favorite style pickup ever. Been looking for one for quite a while now. Good luck on your build. -Mike
you got a nice project there hope for some build photos ,a nailhead buick mill would be cool in it if you dont run the flatty
So I met this guy at the gas station and he said he like my truck, 64 C10. He said he had a bunch of Packard parts and some Model A parts, and a 38 Ford truck, that was a basket case. Of course I asked "thinking of selling?" Four days later and alot of great talk, got the truck. He lives two blocks from me. Going back tomorrow to look at the Packard parts and Model A. Got the truck home and started going thru the parts and pieces. This is what came with the truck. I'm stoked!!!! I will post the build. I think for now just getting it road worthy, frame, 40 brakes and mill will be the first items.
excellento....i have spent all week on my 39....been redo'n the bed this week....made almost every panel...and a new frame...got it and the fenders and running boards on today for the first fitting....i had lots of questions and not many answers...git busy, it'll be one of the coolest trucks on the street when done....38-39 Ford trucks are ***Y
Nice truck! Did you switch to juice brakes? Wasn't sure if I could run the same wheels, they looke *****n
man. why cant I find deals like this. people around here want top dollar for rusted out stuff. have some fun with that ole truck. you gonna run a FOMOCO powerplant?
Yes it has juice brakes. It came that way. I haven't done anything but put the spare on. It has wide-5 wheels.
As often happens with these trucks, you've got a mix of '38 and '39 parts. You have a '39 grille and '39 doors (only '39 had the stamped sheet metal inside door panels, '38 door panels were the same laminated cardboard stuff as the headliner). However, you have a '38 dash, upper dash panel, and windshield regulator. '39 does not have the ashtray in the middle of the dash, and '39 gauge faces are sort of a chocolate milk color. '39 windshield regulator has a round knob up on top of the upper dash panel. Since the dash is more likely to be original than the grille, I think it's more likely that you've got a '38 with some '39 parts on it instead of the other way around, but might be a good idea to check the serial number to confirm. Mac VanPelt's site, www.flatheadV8.com has serial number ranges by model year. The serial number of your truck is stamped on top of the driver's side frame rail anywhere between the firewall and front crossmember but most often right beside the steering box. If your truck has its original transmission, you will find the same number on the bell of the trans case just above the clutch inspection window.
