Here's another set of "Sparrow Strainers" from a '62 Imperial. Everyone goes on about the Caddy fins and tail lights but I don't think they've got anything on a lot of the Chrysler and Imperial stuff. Probably kind of spendy, but now I love saying "Sparrow Strainers". Another great Mopar euphemism like "Chinese Six" and "Highland Park Hummingbird".

A couple shots of some '62 Mercury lamps which might look good hung vertically if you can keep them turned the right way. Might not be plentiful but more reasonably priced???

These '57 or so Mercury lamps would look good too with the "V" shape inverted. They already look like something off an old jukebox.

These would be a bit large but they might be the ultimate "Jetson-y" looking tail lamp. But I think they're made out of "unobtainium". Maybe Jay Leno's got some spares.

What kind of actual lighting would you be running in these? Keep in mind that halogen lamps burn pretty hot and could melt plastic lenses. Low voltage or LEDs would likely be your best bet.

    I LOVE THOSE!
It's like you can see right into my head. Those would be PERFECT.
You wouldn't happen to have an extra would you? I'll come pick them up in person and hand carry them on the plane.
    I want those BAD.

Holy **** you are right! I want those BAD

Thanks bud, but at this point I really want to go with the '61Imperial ones

I have the blue one with the clear lens, and I can get my hands on just about any '50 Olds emblem I want from my Dad's friend Bill who personally has over 50 1050 Olds'

Those are certainly cool and would really look great with about 6 of them pointing up on a car themed chandelier hanging over my dining room table.:D

I hadn't really thought that far in advance. Can't I just run the regular automotive bulb in them? I'm going to have my electrican rewire them but I hadn't thought of the bulb factor.

  6. It might be simplest to have the electrician convert them to low-voltage halogens (similar to those round housings you see mounted under upper cabinets). I've seen it done for a similar application and it worked fairly well. You would not want them to be your main source of light in the kitchen, but for a relatively small area like you've described it would work. Depending on the low-voltage design, you might have to look for a light with a larger escutcheon to hide the transformer.

LED lighting would also work although I'd have to think about the design...some of the LED light patterns can be very annoying, and the "bulb" looks odd.

Most of those drop-style lights are 120v at the socket and the original bulb won't work...at least, not for long.

Realistically, you are going to spend considerably more money to do this than you would by simply buying drop fixtures....but done correctly it will make a stunning display for the area.

sylvian...that is a nice car. I think I'm becoming a Mopar fan again. Seriously.

  7.:eek::eek: 50!!!! i looked for soooooooo long for a '50/'51 98 2dr fast back it became almost an obsession.....

I do believe you are the only person on the planet who is mesmerized by that perticular emblem...:D
At one time, I wanted to turn my '50 chevy PU into a "faux-mobil" PU (the pick-up Olds never made) But after looking for trim, badges, grill, and a steering wheel (that weren't ungodly expensive) I soon abandoned that dream.:(

Wanted something to look like car lights in my rec room/soda shop. Found these on close out at Spencer's in the local Mall. Clamp on desk lights for $3.50 each. Took the clamp part off and wired them in direct over the counter. The twin pole lights were also desk lights at $7.50 each. Put the base on the ceiling and wired them in direct. Never know where you are going to find those little treasures.......

Don't know if these could be a possibility for you. No chrome with them. I'll bring them to the ShowDown if they have any appeal to you.

I will look through my spare parts but I believe the only ones I have are on that car. If I find an extra I'll let you know.

I think they wanted $110 a piece for those didn't they? They weren't that nice. I really think you need to have nice shiny ones, nothing pitted in that beautiful new kitchen.

We will keep looking, there are tail lights EVERYWHERE!

60 Imperial will take a blue dot. Not as much chrome base as the 61's but still cool. Just a thought.
We used to call them Sparrow Splitters!

I may have some in the garage. I wish my hair appointment didn't interfere with the Showdown every year...

If you haven't already blown your decorating budget, I thought you might have a big wall to decorate. This site has some old original full-sized billboard ads for sale.

Yeah, the really choice ones are pretty pricey, but there's a few that are more reasonably priced.

There is a trailer store that I go to to get cool larger lights or LED systems. They have amber, blue and different colors.

I do have a big wall to decorate but I got a nice size original Lowcab to go there. Just have to save the money for matting and framing.

Shipping costs would kill me though ;)

Yep, sure wish I had some extra time. I work Monday thru Friday and most places around here that I could get to on a Saturday have just junk left. I'll hit the swap meet at the GG Indy event this weekend. I'm pretty hopefull something might turn up. I'm really in no hurry though there is already plenty of light in teh kitchen. I'm just looking for "mood" lighting over the island.

Next time you go will you snap a few photos with that cool PINK camera you own? Thanks bud! xoxox
