its been 30 years and now i have time to get to my Falcon- i am thinking of going with a straight axel with the gasser look but 2 questions got me 1) how will it steer drive? i plan to drive this car ALOT and do a route 66 run at some time so no trailer queen 2) will it be street legal??? I plan on disc brakes and power steering and I am used to leaf spring as i have on my 67 IH Scout 800. I'm not a spring chicken so comfort is up there. any help?? the car is on blocks right now (pictures to come tomorrow) and the engine and trany are out so any help or opinions please? Thanks in advance
IMHO If your plans are Cruising on 66 and driving the shit out of it I would think twice about a straight axle. If yer gonna take an occasional drag strip run or maybe cruise local then yeah. I'm sure there is gonna be someone here that says do it but comfort seems to be high on your list. As you probably know the staright axle was used for traction and weight transfer at the strip........Just my 2 cents
Straight axles can be very user friendly if set up properly. Shucks, they were standard fare for how many years in 'new' cars & trucks. That being said... by the feel of your post, I'd have to agree with 6t5frlane. It sounds like you would be happier without an axle. Gassers don't have to have straight axles, do it up! JMHDWO.
Well boys I am getting along in age and yup crusing long and far is the ultimate goal my problem is finding someone who can set it up properly for me or lend some guidance. I did the work on my IH Scout i would guess it would be the same except fot the differential in front
Someone had a straight axle Falcon on the Power Tour last year, probably scary on some of those roads!
i also have a 64 falcon and im goin with the gasser look with straight axle but my falcons for the strips and to drive it on 66 i dont kno
