This is kind of a dumb question but I got a cheap Hurst type shift handle given to me. I had to drill and tap it to match my shifter and noticed the aluminum got my hands filthy. So whats the best rattle can clear to seal it up so my hand isn't all dirty from shifting gears. It's not a high dollar car so it doesn't need to be perfect. Thanks.

Personally, I've found the Krylon and Rustoleum brands to work best with the drying time going better with Krylon. Have used it a good bit when chrome is starting to give way to rust. Buff it out good with OOOO steel wool. Keeps the little brown freckles away for a good while. Good luck with it..........

Go to a shop that does outdoor vinyl graphics and ask for "Frog Juice". It's a clear protective coating, it's glossy and has a high moisture and UV resistance. My cousin used to have a sign/t-shirt shop and made custom chrome graphics for my kids' BMX bike then clear coated the frame with it after we applied the graphics. The stuff is tough as nails. IIRC it was about $12 a can and that was 12 years ago. We still have the frame, except for some "battle damage" the graphics look like the day they were put on. It saw some serious abuse before he graduated to a bigger bike. It was sprayed over Dupli Color metallic paint.

  7. Any auto paint store has good professional quality clear in a can. It's called "Door Jamb" clear around here.
