Fact is...Most females don't get their hands dirty working on cars..(Denise sure does though)...and some of the males on this board don't either....Welcome Christiana...jump in...have some fun...and don't let the negative assholes run you off. You can learn alot here if you want....and no need to prove yourself.
[ QUOTE ] have some fun...and don't let the negative assholes run you off. [/ QUOTE ] Now hatch, are you trying to hurt my feelings I have no way of knowing Christiana's intentions nor any other swinging "D_ck" that enters here. It's just that I really get tired of seeing 1304 hits om an intro post just because there's a female involved. Take a good look at some of the technical posts and compare. My appologies Christiana for using your intro as my sounding board. And my appology to Action Girl for assumming your intentions. Nothing is more attractive in my mind than to see a girl into cars for the love of the cars and not just to meet boys. And to find one who actually works on one would be a keeper in my mind. Christiana welcome to the Hamb! "the negative asshole PJ".
Yo Christiana....Welcome fellow New Yorker!!! And you own a Fairlane to. I have a 65 Sport Coupe and live in " the Burbs ". These HAMB guys don't realize that NY chicks could probably kick there ass anytime they want. We are a tough bunch but will do anything for a friend. I think you will find a lot of friends here. I sure feel welcome. Take that Fairlane out this Spring/Summer and take the cruise up the Palisades Pkwy to Bear Mountain for there Wed night cruise. Usually 500 to 1000 cars every wed night, some top notch shit....
Petejoe...no..not directed at you...but directed at the ever increasing group that have invaded and find fault with everything. Actually, I see your post as a positive challenge by telling her to "prove you wrong"..OK???

I dont believe there is any disrespect from any of the guys because a gal is into wrenching. Brandy
Welcome to the HAMB. Lots of great knowledge here to absorb. There is an awesome show in July in Syracuse. Maybe our paths will cross there as I'd love to meet another diehard car gal that is truely into it.
Brandy Right on !!! Hatch, I now understand it was a generalization. Regardless of what you do or say. You're a Hamber in my mind. Yes, Christiana fill his shoes. PJ
I don't think it's girls or guys who don't want to get their hands dirty, I think it's people. Some do, some don't. Coming out of the horse world, I'm used to it! I'm in the barn working, riding, grooming... Whatever the day brings. I'm usually filthy by day's end and wouldn't have it any other way... BigCheese327- My 289 is looking around mournfully for its Falcon or Mustang... And my Fairlane is looking around mournfully for an engine that can do it some justice! Action Girl - Thanks for the welcome. My car isn't going anywhere, and neither am I! I might be silent most of the time, but I am here reading! Never stop learning. PJ - Hey, that's cool. You can use my post as a sounding board. It's understandable, you don't know me yet! Seriously, though, it's all good. I will do what I can with my car without hurting her or myself and maybe that will put me in the red around here, we'll see! 6t5Frlane - I love the Bear Mountain cruise and go as often as my work schedule allows! I am looking forward to getting there with my car this year. Denise - I have heard about that show and am looking into it. If the Fairlane is in ship shape, so to say, I would love to drive her up here! I would love to meet another die hard car gal too. Rat Rodder - Cool, hello again, then! Now, I have an actual question... As I mentioned, I have the '66 289 in the car right now. It has the stock manifold and a Motorcraft 2100 from around '72. I was thinking about swapping it all out for a different manifold and a 4bbl. Just a little HP and reliability boost until the engine project can be reasonably started, which might not be for a while given financial restraints. Can anyone reccomend a good manifold/4bbl combo? I've heard many differing opinions from friends and I am very curious to hear what people here think... Thank you!! ~ Christiana
1200 of those 1300 hits were pro'lly me. I'm just checking to see if you guys are saying anything funny

I would suggest you check Speedway Motors. I think they still have some cast iron 4 barrel intake manifolds for around $45 bucks. I believe these are Ford factory marine manifolds bought by Speedway in surplus. I've had good luck with the Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. Not for racin' but just real good all around driveability and throttle response. Cheap too!
Christiana, you may want to start another post for your question, BUT Ebay (if you trust it) is always a good place to look for manifolds and parts. I'd stick with the Edelbrodk recommendation, as well. Holleys seem like too much of a bitch to keep fiddling with- and you ALWAYS keep fiddling with them.
Just about anything you can dream up is readily available for your small block Ford, off the shelf. Depends on what you wanna do, of course. Sounds like you're mainly interested in a "common sense" approach - the Edelbrock stuff works well there. And personally, I find the Holley carbs to be more simple to tune than anything else, but guess it just depends on what you're familiar with. If you've tweaked the Motorcraft carb, the Holley should feel familiar to you... Now, about this new engine you want to build...What are your intentions???
jangleguy wrote: [ QUOTE ] I've been to your city, and can't comprehend having to pay so much for the privilege ($650 to park your car?!)... [/ QUOTE ] What you also have to understand is that in some of these NYC garages, you do not park the car. The parking attendants take it at the entrance and then park the cars about 6 inches apart, sometimes crawling through windows of a couple of cars to get "out". They maximize space by cramming as many cars in as possible, and when you want to use your car, you let them know a few hours ahead of time, so they can have time to extricate your car from the "jam". The attendants appreciate tips and if you tip, you will get your car quicker and it will tend to get less door dings and scratches. At Christmas you are EXPECTED to give a large tip (like maybe a couple hundred bucks) to the head parking guy and he decides how the holiday tips get divided up amongst the employees. If you don't give a big Christmas trip, you will be waiting longer to pick up your car, even though you called ahead, and you may well see a more door dings. NYC ain't cheap, I had friends who went through this private garage parking scam in Manhatten.
Henry - I am going to go check out Speedway now. That sounds like an affordable option since the swap is for an engine I don't plan to keep. Thanks! Deyomatic - I trust eBay *sometimes*. Mainly for trim and non-moving parts. I think in this case I would have to go with new or rebuilt by a trusted place. I would be too paranoid to put the parts on if I got them from eBay, unless the seller came highly reccommended. I do think you're right about starting a new thread for this. Maybe I will do so now... Jangleguy - You're right. For now, I am looking to go with a little common sense. I don't want to sink a ton of money into this engine. I am mainly looking for her to run reliably for now, which, at the moment, she does not... The new engine... I want something in the 300 horsepower range. I was thinking about some version of a different FSB. It is over my head to modify engine compartment and to drastically change the mounts to make a big block fit, so I don't want to even get tempted. I was offered a 390 bored .30 over complete with a C6 for a very fair price, but a few things concern me. The engine isn't significantly heavier than the 289, only around 180lbs, but the C6 is a very heavy trans. I believe I would then have to change the suspention, and that's a whole new can of worms... Unless I am wrong? I am also quite worried about what would have to happen to the car to get the trans in place. I have actually heard the changes to fit the engine wouldn't be that extreme, but the mods for the trans would. OK, again, over my head, so I moved on with my thoughts haa haa... So, in conclusion, I am looking for something that will fit the current mounts with little modification. I haven't made any concrete desisions yet, I am still looking around and collecting information!
Christiana, welcome from one Mojave desert rat. Im guessing A-your car is from outa state to be in such good shape. B-saw the garage in the winter more than the street, or C-someone did some fine ass body work on that thing. Nice car.
Christiana, How about a holley street avenger on a edelbrock performer intake. Carb comes pretty much set up. Bolt on and go! You'll fly up the PIP this summer !
