I buy parts cars for my yard, although quite often they are too good to part out, such as a rust-free '31 Chevy sedan I picked up a couple days ago. There are still bargains to be found, towing yards have the occasional HAMB-friendly ride, and they usually can be picked up at reasonable prices.

  3. Well, it was what could u buy today with that kinda money. But I still love hearing peoples storys. Some cars that people picked up for $500 bucks 20, 30 years back r now going for the deed to ur house. And thats just the shell!

  4. What did that purple one look like when u bought it nad man.

Bought this two weeks ago for a grand. Its a 41 Plymouth Club Coupe. Zero rust, and the seller was the second owner since 1954.

It ran today for the first time in 30 plus years!

I have roughly 650 or so in my 68 caddy sedan deville so far. I bought it last October 24th. I want to have it completed for roughly 1500-1800 dollars. Body was pretty solid, interior ok aside from mold and the rear seat. No rust through anywhere. May pick up a set of tires from craigslist today for 125. Needs a windshield.

  17. My '53 Willys Aero Falcon for $1100 is the most I've ever paid for a car. I got my '73 Firebird for free, which is the least I've ever paid for a car.

That being said, I am a believer of the old adage, "You get what you pay for."

About 10 years ago I traded an intake manifold and a set of pushrods for a 78 camaro. Drove the hell out of it for a few years and traded it for my first Harley.

Worked out pretty well for me. Not sure if that guy ever got his motor together though.

Real nice, solid old car, worn to hell interior but it was complete, this was in 1990 mind you. I drove it with the original engine that was in it for many years until it wore out and then rebuilt it.
The green Capri was bought in 1987, so it was years ago but they are still out there, just a lot rustier and not quite as cheap.

500 for a 54 Bel Air. The owner thought the timing chain was shot but the isides of the distributor just needed a little emery cloth. Runs fine just needs body work. Best deal ever.

Almost everything I buy is under $1500, I prefer under $500 and still get reasonably good cars. Here's a short list

'72 Olds cutlass supreme, $1400 (runs, drives, streetable)
'72 Pontiac grandville convertible w/ 455, $1202 (runs, drives, streetable)
    '70 Buick Riviera w/ 455, $800 (runs, drives, streetable)
'70 Buick Riviera w/455, $300 (bought for the trunk lid, but got a great motor and tons of parts)
    '72 Pontiac Lemans w/ 350 and newly rebuilt th400, $500
'54 Chevy stationwagon $300 delivered to my shop,
    '66 Chrysler 300 with 383/727 and extra 440, $1000
    '58 GMC fleet pickup, $800
'72 olds cutlass supreme (for parts for above)running, driving, $600
'42 Plymouth runs and drives with original drivetrain, $500
    '82 camaro, $200
'84 camaro (parts for above, particularly new transmission) $500
'60 Chevy 2 door, $500 runs and drives though a bit rusty

that's just the last two years. They are out there, good cars that run and drive, perhaps less desireable than the more popular ones but...

1500$ is the most I ever spent on a car lol, and that was for my 54 210.

  27. Most ever spent was for a '64 409 4 speed bisquit in 1976. 1,200 and I thought that was the national war debt.

I have purchased a few late model cars between about 1988 and now that were a little higher. I think a '93 T bird in '96 that cost me almost 3200.00 but I needed transportation in a hurry.

For cars that become hotrods I very seldom spend more than a grand and those are usually stalled projects or runners that need some work to make them right. I guess that's why I will never own a deuce. :D

Here are just a few!! Great cars for cheap are all over the place if you get off the couch (or computer) and look. Here are some recent examples.

1970 Chrysler 300 one owner $1,500. 1970 Dart GT convertible $1,400. 1970 Cougar Eliminator $1,450. 1960 El Camino $1,800.1965 Barracuda 273 Commando with tons of extra parts $600. 1958 Impala parts car $300. 1926 T Roadster pick-up ('m currently building it) $900. 1994 Mustang $350 running. 1971 Dart V-8 with A/C $600. 1969 428 XL convertible $1,200. Or how about an Airplane for $200? (ya gotta think outside the box sometimes!) Or a 66 Edlorado convertible for $1,100?
