  3. I do a LOT of flapwheel "grinding" of brackets to take off cnc plasma kerf and to remove mill scale surface after it soaks in acid. When I say a lot, I mean an easy 20 hours a week. I have used cheapo swap meet stuff and HF for quite awhile. I was given a box of Norton 80grit (same as I use of the cheapos) by a sales rep. Garbage, total garbage. I wouldn't buy any more Nortons if they were 1/2 the cost of HF. When taking off any remaining mill scale on brackets, all flap wheels will plug. The good news for me is as they start to plug, I move to the cut sides and it cleans them right up, then on to the next bracket.

The Nortons would plug, same as the HF discs, but hitting the edges would NOT clean them up like they would the cheapo ones. So, befoe they were 1/2 used up, they were of no use.

    I haven't tried 3m yet.

The Walter composite backed flap wheels are awesome. They really do an excellent job. I've got a similar wheel right now, I think it's from Lehigh Valley, that has been working out alright for me. For cutoff wheels I just get whatever the best deal I can find in a stainless version on ebay. SS wheels last longer, and other then a Sait a friend gave me to try I've never really been impressed by their longevity. The Sait was good, but even that was a little too expensive to justify the cost to me. I'm using a stack of really thin cut off wheels right now that are working well. .040" thick, from benchmark_abrasives on ebay. They're local to me and I've bought rolocs from them before but had kind of forgotten about them, but they've got a great price on these wheels right now...
