""like someone said before I'm a business and I'm on the HAMB all the way and many people on here know me so I have more to lose than he does""

yeah.. you could lose the car and the money. I'd rather take a personal check than deal with payscam.

It don"t matter if its Donald Trump,I have money in hand before car or title leaves my other hand.you said in your post it was a long distance sell, hell it ain"t really that far away. Its your call but you can"t buy groceries with an IOU.

  3. I don't know who is buying the car but I can tell you Rick,,Showtime Transportation is a man on a mission,,if he says it will be there,,it will be.

And as others have said,,cash in full,,when rick picks up the car send the title with him. HRP

  4. This seems like a foolproof way to do it. Don't know the cost however.

why not call one of the hamb haulers, ie ben d and have him take the car to him with the title in hand? that way everyone involved feels all warm and cozie.

  6. Showtime is a hamb hauler. HRP

Rick is one the HAMB and is a HAMB Hauler.
BenD is on his way to the Jalopy Showdown and has plans after that for all of next week.

  8. does Rick usually not want the title?

He probably doesn't want to get involved. Just put it in the glovebox.

I sold a car a few years back, to a guy in California. He wire transfered me a 25% deposit to hold the car, and wired the remaining money before the transporter picked up the car. It is a real easy way of doing it, if you just do a wire transfer, it sure saves on the pay-pal hassles, and charges.
After the car was paid in full, I overnighted the title to him, and made him sign for it. It is well worth the extra little bit of money, and effort, to insure that the title gets to the proper hands.

  11. looks like he hired some other shipping company now that ships for his buddy's dealership, the shipper called me and told me that they will be picking the car up tomorrow morning between 9-10am...he doesnt know how to wire money so were sticking with paypal and hope this all works out, I'm emailing him over a contract and he's going to email back saying he agrees to all the terms such as payment, no refunds sold as is..etc we both have email records, phone records and text records of all that we've said so I'd hope that'd be enough to keep this thing legit and legal for both of us

  12. I do this all the time in my classic car marketing business.

    1) When they send a deposit, I scan the title and send them a copy to prove it is clear and they have the VIN# to get insurance. I also send a copy of the bill of sale.
    2) When the full price is received...prior to shipment of the car, I'll overnight the original title and signed bill of sale. Then the car belongs to the buyer and we facilitate the pickup as needed.

Obviously, each deal is different and whatever agreement is reached regarding payment and shipment...it is spelled out in the bill of sale beforehand so all parties are aware of their responsibilities.

    NO CASH...NO CAR!!!...

    Murph:cool:

yeap, it's tought to walk into your bank and ask them to wire transfer money to this account as you hand them a piece of paper with the account number and routing number of the persons account you want the money deposited into. The cost is $15 at my bank.

I'm sure he'll have the car a couple of days before you have access to the money in your paypal account.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

fyi, Paypal charges YOU a 3% fee of the total amount transferred.

  15. good point, hope it all works out (fingers crossed)

not if you select personal and payment owed they dont charge anything, I've been using paypal for years so figured out their fees because they were killing me for awhile

whats going on im the one purchasing the car and justin is right about everything. I normally just browse around here and read around builds, etc. anyways i said ive never wired money and im sure it is easy just never done that. I actually found out thru pay pal i dont need to transfer $ from acct to paypal then tosomeones account and that i can actually just go from my acount to his account thru them without every putting the $ into my paypal. I guess i learned the hard way but it wasnt that bad just a 3-5 day peroid to process it.

you evidentally have no clue as to how paypal works. you could have a note signed by the pope and it wouldn't matter. the only thing that matters is the Paypal user agreement you agreed to when you signed up. Paypal is evil and sneaky, like Dick Cheney.

the most likely scenario is that the buyer is legit and things will work out just peachy. you'll never see me risking my car and money like that. good luck.

one more question... why come for advice if you are going to just go with the original plan anyways?

well i told him to keep the title and wait till the money is actually in his bank account before he mails it...so i will have the car, he will have the title... i can actually get f***** but everything seems honest so its all good.

  22. I guess I don't know how it works, I don't see how he could screw me over when we have all this contact and everything all that seems like it would work in court as evidence and I'm keeping the title until I have the money in my bank account

I came for advice on the title thing, wasn't sure what to do there and then wanted to hear everyone's thoughts and comments, like I said never sold a car long distance so had no idea what to do, the wire transfer would have been cool with me but we did it this way with PayPal and we'll see how it goes

My experience (not good) with these kind of requests, is don't give the car and title until you have full money in hand. My brother and dad were burned on a deal similar to what you describe. I would make sure that the cash is in hand before transferring title and car.

I'll never understand why people do that.

I bet you're right , it's all on the up and up, but I know damn well you can reverse anything on paypal and the seller will always wind up screwed. Or the buyer can say the ebay and paypal account passwords were stolen. Ask me how I know.

Transferring money can take a few days for it to 'settle' and everything to clear. What's the hurry?!?

EDIT: A title is just a piece of paper. On an old car like that you can get another title easily. And as for preparing for court, well an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The odds of seeing a dime even if you got a judgement are slim to none.

How do you stay in business doing stuff so unprofessionally?

Paypal for a car? Really? that seems like a good idea? Wow.

Man,come on now, as said paypal can reverse charges at anytime and they work mainly towards the buyers benefit,Why can"t this guy send you a legit check, you take it to the bank, wait till it is clean and clear, money, cash in hand.He then can pick the car up.some piece of paper contract does still not put money in your pocket.Everytime someone has ( INSISTED )on doing it through PAYPAL TURNS OUT TO BE A SCAMMER.You are selling the car and you should be making the decision on how you want to be paid, not the buyer.big deal hes been on the HAMB LESS THAN 2-WEEKS.hope you don"t get screwed.

I'm sure it will all work out OK -- let us know.
However even if you have the title, he has the car and possession, as they say, is nine points of the law.

Wire transfer is as easy as writing a check -- in fact easier. Learn how it is done (just talk to your bank). Some banks charge the sender, some charge the receiver (most credit unions do not charge). Some will say a wire transfer can be reversed - don't listen to them, it is not true unless the bank makes a mistake in the transfer. Use this in the future.

There are other methods for the buyer to give the shipping company the funds, the shipper gives the seller a check number which is guaranteed, I forget the words but search the HAMB for this method. This is also a secure method.

Exactly like this plus use a bank transfer, the only way to do long distance buy and sells.
