I'm working on getting my rear brakes together on my '49 Ford coupe , and I'm missing the lower brakeshoe springs on either side (inside the drum) , that are near the adjuster (stock rear) . Any fellow shoebox Ford owners have any part numbers or suggestions as to get such a thing locally , like at Auto Zone , Advance , Napa , or ... ?? Do I NEED to get them at Dennis Carpenter or the like ?? I've also looked on Shoeboxfords(dot)com , but to no avail (as far as I saw) .

Also , while I've got ya ... where do ya get a new handbrake cable for this thing ?? IIRC , the '49 is a one-piece cable vs. the 50-50 which is two-piece . Anyone have an outlet for such a thing ??

I've been looking around for this stuff (or info here on the HAMB) , but don't get a ton of online time with my little kidd-o , so any leads would be MUCH appreciated . Thanks in advance - cheers !

hey allen, i'm in li***z and am pulling the rear out of my '50. just pulled all the inners out of the brakes to roll easier. everything is there, it's used but if you want them your welcome to them. pm me and make arrangement to pick them up. if your going to the jalopy showdown i can bring them there, let me know. jerseymike

funny you should ask about shoebox brakes. my driver's rear wheel cylinder blew out this morning on the way to my shop. and i lost all my brakes. fun fun fun!!! i was super surprised that the local napa stocked the wheel cylinders, and other brake parts for my car. the cylinders were only 9 bucks for the rears. the fronts were 13. the front and rear shoes were only 22 buck each, with a 7 dollar core charge. i didn't ask the price on the spring kit, cause mine are all brand new.
good luck. but try the napa first. they usually got the best prices on the older stuff too. autozone tends to ask too many stupid questions, like if it has a/c, and power windows. hahaha
