That's kind of subjective. Chroming is a business that you get what you pay for, in my experience its better to pay for something well done than to pay for re-chroming twice. I would go with a company that will warranty their product, I've used AIH chrome out of Debuque,Iowa. hey hand sand their parts and stamp them and guarantee the part not to pit or peel or they re-do ti for free.

Bumpers are labor intensive. If not ground and finished right before it is plated the welds and any pits will be magnafied. Find a local shop that still uses copper as a base, then the nickel and then chromium. We can do them but shipping is the setback. Call and we will help.

The key is prep, which is labor, which is time. If you could get it into a true dip-ready state yourself you would save a ton of cash, but part of the prep involves intermediate plating with copper to fill in tiny pits and give a good surface for the nickle plate, then the actual chrome plate. Without the good prep the chrome will flake off.

Check out the 51 Kaiser thread where "Chrome Plater Josh" is doing the bumpers. From what I've read his steps are: Weld, grind, sand, copper plate, sand/buff, nickle plate, buff, chrome plate. Lots of prep work and expensive materials and heavy environmental regulations make it expensive. I've seen quotes of $500 per bumper and $1500 per bumper and even more, depending on what you start with.

ChromePlaterJosh will be able to give you a pretty accurate quote once he knows what bumpers they are. Not only that but his shop recently became an Alliance vendor so Hambers get a discount on services. The 51 Kaiser build thread has some awesome pictures of the bumpers. I was able to see them in process but have not seen them as they are finished.
Best guess for what to expect for a fullsize bumper is around $450 and up.

I just had 2 bumpers done on my Hudson. Both bumpers were fairly straight, with no major dents, pits, etc.

I filled the bumper holes on both the front and rear, and the rear bumper was sectioned and narrowed.

I had $1050.00 in the rear bumper and $800 in the front. That included straightening, polishing, copper, nickle, and chrome.

They look beautiful. I had them done at a local plater.

He told me if they just needed a replate (meaning no custom work had been done) they probably would have been in the 600.00 range each.

I dont know if that helps.

Pitting can cause an issue, and when you weld up that hole, it better be a good weld, clean and no pits. fyi.
