Not legal in Pa

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by perk30, May 12, 2010.

  1. Really sounds like this is the way to go if they're going to make you show them a bunch of reciepts. Who the hell stops at the swap meet to get a reciept? Who keeps reciepts for stuff that there's not even a guarantee on, or what if the car takes you five years to build?

I'm just curious for my own benefit, but I'm still not sure how I'm going to handle it if I relocate there. It's sooooo easy to put a car on the road in New York, it's not funny, possibly the one good thing about living here.

Well, I have been building a 40 chev coupe for a while. I know there ain't NFW I have all the reciepts, expecially for the swap meet shit. So where does that leave me. I have a rebuilt SBC and trans from a junk yard donor with no reciept. If I had one I lost it. I will have fenders and all the other stuff but it is chopped so I guess there is no way to get regular tags anymore. Man reading this has fired me up!!!!! If you don't have reciepts how can they figure you owe sales tax and does that mean you can never register or inspect the car??

Found a good way around the PA red tape and BS. Wyoming plates.

You have to set up an llc in Wyoming and register the car through it. There are a bunch of websites and law offices that do it. It is more common to do it fgor motor homes and high dollar vehicles. They do not charge sales tax.

I'm not sure of the costs yet but it's worth looking into. A friend did it with his motorhome and 53 Ford F 100.

That's what you think! I was driving through town one night and a state cop had someone pulled over (in a town with it's own police force). When I went by, he eyed up my 39 pontiac coupe. The next thing I knew he was following me around town. He pulled me over and wrote me up for the blue dots and told me to remove them, then go to the station and have a cop sign off on them, and have the cop give the paper to him before a certain date, so I wouldn't have to appear in court.
Weeeeelllllllll, apparently he never got it, so I got a summons, and had to go to court and prove to the judge that I had removed them. I can't remember if I had to pay anything though.
Here's a funny side note though. My son used to get car sick, so my wife read that smelling fresh mint would help ease the condition. She would pick the mint that grows on our property and take it with us on trips. The night that idiot cop stopped me, there was a rolled up baggy of green leaves (mint), laying in plain sight on the back seat, that he didn't even notice even though he shined his light in the car! I had half a notion to take it to court that day and show it to the judge, just to embarrass that smart ass cocky cop.
Found out later from a state cop relative that he got transferred across state, cause none of the cops around here liked him! So not all cops are bad, but it only takes one to make your life miserable.

I got them legalized in Idaho in the mid 80's. Law says pre 48 but lots of newer cars have them now with out any problems.

Tried to explane to the cop I have nerf bar custom made bumpers ,he said they arnt original factory bumpers,I replied yes they are.I made them in my factory and they are my originals. He laughed and kept writing the ticket.LOL.

Moved to PA from MD and picked up plates for my 54 Ford pickup in PA in 2002 or 2003 without any problems. No bumpers or door handles. All they required was that I have it weighed since it's a truck. I had to get Collector car plates since it is post 1948. Couldn't use Antique plates because its been modified. Bob

Is that like the guy I "know", who installs, and then later the same day removes his front bumper once a year, always around the end of the same month?
