What do the clips look like that attach the rear stainless lower moulding for the rear gl*** I cant find any pics or info anywhere? Thanks
Come on with all the Mercs on here someone has to have some info the only way I can see to attach it without the clips is to use regular moulding clips that need holes drilled which I do not want to do or glue it on but if I have to take the back gl*** back out then I am screwed. I have plenty of ideas but would like to see the originals so I can fab up some copys if I have to. It seem to me that they would attach to the rubber seal or window lip somehow.
there is no pic, but follow this link - 1949-51 rear window trim finish clip, bottom of page 11(part #rwfc-a, $14.50 each.) http://www.mercuryland.com/Images/2010 Catalog with pics 49-51.pdf
Thanks for responding but now is that one of the two clips that snap on the outside of the trim to finish off the stainless for a cleaner look because if so I have those. I am looking for the clips that actually attach the moulding to the body of the car.
unknown- I waited to respond till I got home to check my books, and of course, they bear no description either(and it was the only trim clip listed for the rear gl***) - I would suggest calling the company and asking them. Sorry, its all I got.
The original clips were held on with a single screw. They fit the contour of the body and rubber. Each end of the clip has a round end on it and the moulding is snapped over it. (inevitably the moulding would be dented trying to bang it into place) Even if I had a set of new ones, I would NOT use them. I made up a set of 'T' clips to fit similar to the pic's. The holes where the original clips were attached were opened up to fit the threaded studs which are accessable from the inside.
Thank you that is exactly what I was looking for. Also what you say makes sense at least now I know the original design and what I need to work with.
