Quit the car club

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by carcrazyjohn, May 9, 2010.

  1. Back in the day (1959-62) I belonged to a socal car club, the TARTARS, we were based in Bell ca, members lived in South Gate, Huntingon Park, Maywood & Bell, meetings were held at local Bell PD, it was good back then, poker runs, club picnics, small car shows, helping people that were stranded on streets & highways. It was really a lot of fun then. I was only in the club three years, then fell in love with a great gal, still married 47 years July. This Sunday we are going to a 50 year reunion for the Tartars Car Club, should be very interesting! cw.

    Clubs have rules.

    The closest to a cub I get is;
On Wednesdays a group of us have breakfast.
On Thursdays another group meets for lunch.
We keep up on all of the upcoming shows.

Seems like I wrote this. I feel the same way after awhile club gets new members, officers, direction. And its not what it wasd when I joined. The friends I made are still my friends so I've lost nothing but my head ache.

Tried it once and it fell apart .Jumped ship quick and gave my coat back .Too much politics and Bullshit IMO.I suppose with the right group of people it could work ,but lifes too short for that kind of stuff IMO .My current car club consists of my wife and daughter ,and we arent accepting any more members...

So true....when you quit a club you find out who your real friends are. Nice to enjoy your car without worrying about politics. Get enough of that s*** at work.

  9. Absolutely true. I quit a club I, and fifteen others, started in 1982. Only one is still in that club, and he joined back after we fourteen had left. We do go to their annual show - and let the newbies do the work. We sit back and enjoy, as it should be.

Well my truck was not ready so My mom and dad took me to the place where we all was going to start at! I get there and only 2 people are there, Well a buddy of mine on this site came in his truck, Well Sence there was not many people the two said Nope not going! WTF SOOOO My friend and I did the run by are selfs in his 39 Ford PU. I went to there meeting one more time to tell them what I thought and never went back.

I reather just go to some parking lot every other weekend with my old car and maybe other people will say, Hey he is there every other weekend we need to bring are old car there to! After awile people will see a few old cars and it just might get kind of big.

  14. i joined my local club over ten years back. tried to be part of the doers and helped where i could. it was something i wanted ever scince i hung around with the guys in my early teens.
then at the end of last year, a guy who vandalised my ride because i upset him a few years back was allowed to join up.
well im not in the habbit of hanging with fools, so i left. whoever said you find out who your real friends are when you leave, nailed it.

  15. What's a car club?

Isn't that where people gather around and try to tell you what to do?
-or is it one of those things where people try to get everyone else to look and act just like them?

I get a laugh when I see some of those "biker" groups acting so proud of their lookalike nonconformist uniforms trying to tell people "I am different just like everybody else".

Neither my bikes or my cars are made to imitate or to conform to "club" opinions.

    What's a car club?
Oh, now I remember- it's where a bunch of old hens get together to peck at each other, then choose up which sides to take in different "feud of the week" contests.
Why would anyone find that interesting?

Sounds like you were in the club I quit 3 years ago when my "friends" screwed me over. True friends will be there always, when you need to pay dues monthly for friends thats when you need to rethink your priotities. Still got my cars and the love of them. Thats all I need. Well maybe this lamp too. But thats all.

I haven't went to the last 5 functions/ meetings for my club. I skipped out and went to a hot rod cruise night instead of going to the "big meeting." I'll take a few true friends, over a club any day.

I've done that scene and had my fill of it. I don't want to spend my all too rare spare time fund raising for someones pet project. I don't want to wear what someone else has determined is a "kool" shirt and ride in a pack. I want to pull on what ever t-shirt is at the top of the stack, get the coolest kid I know (my 6 year old) straped in the seat next to me and go cruisin' on the back roads in beautiful central Missouri.

  23. My old man practically started a car club based on the premise of hanging out, workin on cars, having cruise nights, and going to shows.

...then it all went to hell in a hand basket when the women started fighting over what color the jackets were going to be.

So we went solo. Not going back to that bs.

This year is the last for the club I am in,I dont know why I got with one about 50 miles from the house as I dont seem to have the time to attend the club functions and there is too much b/s. I might try to get into another club and see how it works out but if it does not work out it will be lone wolf from then on.

  29. Not everyone has what it takes to get into a club and stay in it. You get out what you put in.

Just figure it like this..It is like dating a woman..You want a pretty, classy lady prepare for the maintnance.. or Do not have as high expectations or you will be disapointed. I put in alot and got alot out of it but at the end of the day it was for the best for me...Yeah rolling in deep is nice too but if you are a gear head you have friends that are not in clubs and can do the same thing... too many rules can hurt it but at teh same time the lack of rules and a good cabinet can cause issues as well..

No personal friends made in the club were hurt during this posting. lol.. Hey i met some solid guys in my old club.. life long friends but I think i actually do more when i am lone wolf.... So its sort of a thank you to my old club...
