Putting a 429 Cadillac into a 1958 Chrysler Imperial. 429 is a front sump oil pan and straddles the crossmember. Can turn the pan around and make the oil pickup longer to go to the back of the engine where the new sump location would be? If not, what would you suggest? The 429 came out of a 1967 Fleetwood so I am sure that it is a 429 not a 472. (If you want ask me why in the world would I put a Caddy into a Chrysler, if you have a Mopar big block and want to swap me straight across, I'd be glad to, but I'm doing the best I can with what I've got...)
The '67 eldorados had rear sump oil pan setups in order to accomodate the front wheel drive layout. Therein lies your best bet.
are you saying that the 429 and 472 are the same animal as far as oil pans are concerned? I thought they were different - my problem isn't the pan - my questions is, can I extend the oil pickup tube to the rear of the engine safely... I figured that a longer tube would require more suction and would I still be able to maintain sufficient oil flow?
The longer tube should not pose a problem if it is properly submerged in the sump and has the correct oil level in the pan. Ray
thanks Ray! In viewing the "dumbest things experts have said about your ride", I was reminded of all the things guys at work said when I asked this question... Thanks for giving my a quality answer!!!
