Sorry fellas... We had to make some changes. Last year we were overwhelmed with too many cars, so this year we decided to be a little (not a lot) stricter about the traditional rule. Essentially, we decided to limit the number of tube chassis cars and pro-street cars at the event. The idea being this leaves more room for more traditionally styled cars.

It has not been easy... and it's not something that is fun at all to do. In fact, I hate it...

I should also add... This not a knock on your truck. If it's fast, it's cool in my book. It's just not the direction of this event.

And your tow truck? Flat out rules.

It's not necessarily a technical thing. We are shooting for cars that (from a style point) represent the periods between the early 1950's until the mid 1960's. The tucked and huge slicks (I call it pro-stock maybe it's something else), the 5-stars, and the pro-stock hood scoop take your truck out of those periods.

Again, I'm terribly embarrassed and don't at all like doing this. I just have to do something to control the numbers.

While I think that the pickup and Carryall are definitely cool, I do agree with Ryan. This site is actually for hot rods and customs. Cars that could have been built "back in the day".....or.....at least, exhibit the philosophy of the era. It's very diffcult to explain the exact problem. Sorta like having a guy shop up with a TR-3 at a rod run.
It's maybe, almost right, but not quite.
Ryan knows, I get it, and I'll bet most of the folks who use this site will get it too. There MUST be a site more suitable for your excellent machinery.

are you talking about the hamb drags?

  9. Dude...you've got a nice truck, this just doesn't happen to be the event to showcase your hard work. Ease up man! Ryan's got a vision... let him see it through, it ain't easy. Come on out and enjoy the weekend. I'll give you a cool one, if you're so inclined. Lookin' forward to it.....

  12. RYAN,,,,, you are right . My 59 doesnt quite fit the type of cars that will be showcased at The HAMB Drags. Sorry if I didnt understand before I regestered. We were at the HAMB Drags in 2009, and had a blast. I was hoping to race there this year, but thats ok.That is why I removed my other posts. I hope you have a great event. LATER, Apache

It doesn't make me feel any better man... I'm really sorry.

  14. We were there last year when the gates opened and it was a bit of a madhouse, and something needed to be done. Me, I would vote for a 2 day event, but thats hard to pull off with the travel times and finding a place to stay, track rental, ect. I think you did the right thing to control what happens and keep the spirt of The HAMB Drags intact. Someone else said, I LOVE HAMB, and so do I. I will race at The HAMB Drags, but not with this 59 Apache,,,,,,,,, Might be an all steel 37 Topilino Gasser, and I know where one is,,, or a Front Engine Dragster, But I will be there. So Ryan, I know you did what you had to do, Sorry I caused this. LATER APACHE

So did I. Ryan is correct. My cars got a round tube chassis and narrowed rear end. The HAMB is for traditional cars. I'll put something together if I feel the need to be there of just wrench on someones' hot rod. Good job Ryan.

I have been to the HAMB drags along with 25 of my fellow car club members for the last 4 years and only 2-3 of them race while the rest of us enjoy watching from the "sidelines" with our cold refreshments and our grills fired up under our two tents. It is something that we all really look forward to all year now. Just to be there is a blast for us - cheering our buddies and new friends down the track. I would encourage anyone to just "be there"

I for one am glad to see an understanding and thoroughly grown up tone here. Here's to those with good attitudes! Ryan's got to make some tough calls. It's nice to see that he's getting the support he deserves.

Thanks to those who got rejected and didn't get their noses out of joint. Hope you come to the drags and have a good time with the rest of us spectators. This year should be great!

  20. Thats why this thread is here, I did get a bit outta shape about it at first. Kinda had a webnet fit. Thats why there is no text in my first few posts, I deleted them. I will be talking with Ryan about it. But like I said, I was hoping to get in but my 59 doesnt fit in.

  21. Hey Apache . . . nice job on thinking it through and not staying bent! Ryan has a hard ass job, but I believe he does it well and we respect him for it. I'm not going this year -- hopefully I'll be "ready" next year. Have fun!

  22. Ryan: I totally agree, keep the race period.

neat truck--i would like to say the HAMB drags has to be the best automotive event i have attended ever! i am 64, so i speak with some experience. i really wanted to bring my super stock dodge, but i knew that it was outside the limit. so i am coming in my old desoto, which ryan likes..so do i . :)

good job. I'll take that cold one .

  25. I would still love to run the 59 at the HAMB DRAGS, but its not gonna happen. If there was someway to make this a two day event,,,,,,, then I might stand a chance.

The length of the event has nothing to do with whether your truck fits the style that the HAMB Drags is geared toward.

    Good On Ya!!

  28. YEAH, This late in the deal I pretty well understand what the Hamb Drags is geared toward. My thought is, if there was more time at the track, maybe more racers like me might get a shot. I hope you would understand as well that I love this event, and just wanted to be a part of it. [IMG] ................ Hell, I might race the tow rig next year,,,,,,

  29. It's nice to see the drags get back to what it started as I have been every year except the first one and it was getting out of hand. Everyone needs to realize this is a traditional show not a good guys event. I am not saying that your cars and trucks and hard work do not deserve respect it's just this is not the event to showcase it at.Ryan I am glad that you are putting your foot down and bringing it back to what it was thank you.I will be there with my Kustom I wont be racing and I wont be in the pits wich sucks I always enjoyed that but hey I will still have a great time!Hats off ryan there are some hard calls and feelings will get hurt but you have to keep it true!

  30. I was a bit hard on Ryan at first,,,, But I totaly understand. I will be a part of this event, but not with the 59. I have a few things in the works. THINK LONG WHEEL BASE!!!!!
