Did anyone else see the letter from the irate Alabamian to the newest issue of Custom Rodder (post RF)?
Didja see how the new editor wrote something about "You and Old Skool Rodz deserve each other."?

I think the gauntlet's been thrown , it'll be interesting to see where this leads.

BTW, I thought CR was pretty good, the '60 Pontiac's very cool, there were a lot more traditionally styled cars in it.
The modern looking Cadillac's is just hideous, it doesn't have a single pleasing line on it.

And digital gauges will never be cool, never ever.

OSR may have its problems, but at least they seem to listen to their readers. for example, they seem to be toning down some of the bad-azzed szenester talk. there, i said something nice about a magazine! [IMG]

I like custom rodder and osr. I could care less what they say, just look at the pictures. I like the caddys new look way more then the old one! Besides building YOUR car is your own perogative.

Besides I don't subscribe to ANY of them high dollar mags, I hate the address sticker being on the front cover.

Stick with Kustoms Illustrated and the other small mags, they are too small to get into any **** throwing matches, LOL

Yea nads, I saw that letter also and thought it sounded like a dis to OSRs. Personally I was a little disapointed in the latest issue of CR. I know they have a new editor now so I guess we will see how it goes in the future. And Digital gauges......please [IMG]

LOL, I have digital gauges in my panel, thats what I wanted. I will be running stock in my impala. It all just depends on what your doing with it. If it werent for technology then none of us would even have a car! **** everyone nowdays would probably be taking charcoal to color there twigs on there hut black and call it a rathut.... and then try to tell everyone else that asked, that its how they did it in the old days and its traditional [IMG]

I'll be honest, I like OSR better than CR. Why you ask? OSR has better features and articles. No, I do not need to know what the words Greaser, shaved, or sectioned mean, but then again I don't have to read about that, I can flip to the next page. CR on the other hand loves showing us how they lowered one of thier staffer's cars or how to shaved a door handle. Thats great to, but its over kill with them. That stuff gets old. I would rather see an article on an old customizer like Winfield, Roth, or Watson. Or features on anything WITHOUT digital gauges(per Nads on that one). I also dig the fact that it simply has more content. And most importantly it's more aimed and the style cars I like, which means I don't have to buy CR if I do not want to.

As for as a war goes, I think OSR's staff can take'em! [IMG]

EXACTLY! Thats the other reason I don't subscribe, if I thumb through it and don't like it then i don't buy it. Heck lately I just buy issues that have 58 impalas anyway...LOL

By golly ILowSabre, I think you have a great idea there. I mean the one about magazine staff members duking it out. That would be great, I'd pay money to see that.

I know Dave Hill's gone, but I bet he'd kill all of the others put together.

Physical violence has always been my ideal way of handling magazine wars, but my superiors never seemed to agree. Is there a VLV Rumble in the making? I'll get Damon in shape real quick like!

If I worked at OSR, I'd be fine with a barb like that in another mag. More exposure. Someone will read it and go buy an OSR issue to see what gives.

That being said, they both have content I can take or leave. CR has feature cars with billet steering wheels and digital gauges.

OSR goes to a killer event like the Road Agents show in CT and shoots rolls of film on those bondo'ed out ****box road warrior cars and has to include at least five or six pics of dudes with greased up pomps in each issue.

I guess I either have to buy giant alloys for my car or get into dudes and their hairstyles.

I like CR cause the cars are all finished, nothing against the unfinished primer jobs, I own one my self thats far far far from done, but its cool to see the total finished project ya know. OSR does have some extra at***ude that CR lacks but I do get kinda bored with the issues. Just my own opinion.

OSR has it moments, Bo Huff is a personal friend and it was nice to see him get his cars in a mag. The last CR I bought had the Piz on the front cover, jeeze that was long time ago.

I have to agree. I get more inspiration from a finished car than an unfinished one in primer. I'm burned out on "rat rods" and that's inspiration to get color on my 39.

I'm not comparing the magazines, I'm just really surprized that the new editor of CR came out and gave a public FU to another magazine. I believe it might be the first time I've seen a corporate giant of a publication do that, a hot rod type magazine anyway.
Iron Horse used to do it all the time in the chopper world.
It's kinda refreshing, and I'm thinking the OSR people are gonna have some kind of response. I'm gonna sit back and watch the *****fest, I'm looking forward to it, it's gonna be fun.

I'd still love to see it all devolve into a good old fashioned fist fight, that would rule.

No, it isn't. About 3 years ago, one of the Primedia Magazines had an "Editor's Column" where the current editor wrote that the work and photography and etc of his just-departed Tech Editor was "half-***ed".
That garnered that editor about 1,500 nastygram e-mails, about as many phone calls, quite a few lost subscriptions and newsstand sales and really helped the subscription rates of the competing, non-Primedia-owned, magazine, which is where the former Tech Editor had gone to work and, as it turns out, Primedia "pulled the plug" and killed that magazine, right before Christmas, a few weeks ago. So that may not be the best thing to do, speaking from a business point of view...

Yea ... but it just doesn't look right for me at least, it's a stale look:(
I think if your going to go digital dash, you might as well go fibergl*** also.

I guess the same can go for airbags in a sled or kustom, that stuff makes them sit killer which i really like. ...again your dealing with modern technology, but at least you can hide them:)

to each his own, i prefer the non-digital look of a original traditional dashboard, it just breeds "style" in every shape and form!

Ya know...for years now, I've gotten the biggest motivational kick out of Th HORSE Backstreet Choppers. Not just for bikes...but their at***ude and philosophy inspire my AUTOMOTIVE ideas as well.

The HORSE is all about stripped down, bare knuckle chops with no doo-dads and gee-gaws added to turn them from performance scoots into cartoon shrines...they preach the attributes of "less is more" and "if ya don't NEED it, leave it OFF!"...which, aside from paintwork maybe, translates wonderfully into building bare bones hot rods as well!

When OSR arrived on the scene, I expected the same quality as that which is exhibited in The HORSE each issue, but the first few issues were a little bit kooky!

That said, I've flipped through a couple recent copies, and they seem to be slowly maturing...any new mag is gonna have to go through some growing pains to find it's niche, and OSR is no exception. The HORSE has been around long enough to have firmly established it's own iden***y, and I'm sure that OSR will get there eventually as well.

And yeah, I still dig Custom Rodder, too...it's like anything else...take what ya like, or what inspires you, and ignore the rest. ****, man...I try to tell the high strung goofball mechanic at work that the key to happiness is worrying about what you need to worry about, and not worrying about anything else...or what anyone else is doing! It ain't much, but it's a lesson I've learned over several decades, and it works for me! Apply it to your magazine reading and you'll be better off for it!

I totally agree Hack, I read both and like both and sometimes one is better then the other. I don't get into much of the articles, just like to look at the pictures for insperation, but I did read the editor's comment and wondered if anything was going to come of it.

Why we're on it, does anyone have a side or front shot of that bad*** gold Lincoln that was in the latest OSR? Big article, but every car shot was of the backend of the car!
