23.jpg is...this stupid car. I should know this but I can't remember what it is and I can't find it in any books right now. I want to say it's some odd Offy-powered thing.

24.jpg Everyone knows what car this is but it's interesting to think that in this group of photos alone you've got pictures from Indy, Daytona Beach, the Lakes, early road races, Indy, and fairgrounds tracks...

25.jpg Thorne-Sparks Big Six driven by Jimmy Snyder

3.jpg Bill Pollack's Allard J2. This car ran a lot of races between 1951 and 1953 but given that it's fenderless it might mean that it was later in its career.

    30.jpg Miller FWD Special.

35.jpg Dean Moon's Devin Moonbeam maybe at Bonneville in 1961 or '62?

Farmer, thanks for scanning all these...gnarly task.

  2. is that so :p

  3. Off the top of my head I think it is '54, which would make it the TD mk2 that set a whole bunch of records. But will check.

Note on "1951 dude on bobber race bike" (post no. 23 by "Farmer"). Wow, great photo! That's a J.A.P. (J.A. Prestwich) speedway machine, made in England, that the guy is sitting on. Strictly a track bike, designed for racing on oval-shaped flat dirt tracks of 150 to 440 yards in length. It has a 500cc (30.5 c.i.) ingine that runs on methanol, a total-loss oiling system, and no transmission--just "clutch in" and "cluch out". There are no brakes; the turns are negotiated by throttle-controlled broadsliding. This particular bike looks like it was probably manufactured in the 1930s. In 1951, when the photo was taken, the main motorcycle speedway track in the U.S. was Lincoln Park, in Los Angeles. Speedway racing died out here for quite a few years but was revived by Dude Criswell in 1968 at Whiteman Airport Speedway in Pacoima. Chances are this old machine was brought out of retirement and raced again.

In Post number nine. the shot of the guy on a scooter reads, "Dude on a Cushman". It's not a Cushman, It's a Hiawatha Doodlebug ! Of course if you called it "Dude on a Doodlebug" it might sound funny. Great stuff !

The quality stuff rises to the top. Great photographs and lots of history with names and places attached to most. Great effort scanning the photos and even greater effort to identify them.

Thanks so much for sharing these and like the original intention Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

The Kenz Leslie Odd Rod in the lineup along a road makes me think that the car was built to originally run the Pikes Peak race. Could this be the location?

I can't wait to see what Ed Tillrock, Nate Grice and I come up with out of these...
I will pm when I run across one I want to render...

Always a thrill to see history in the making. Just think how many thousands of car and racing pictures must be out there in drawers and trunks and boxes...

Just re-discovered this thread - thanks again Farmer.

I wondered if the unknown streamliner might be one of the MG record cars. I found this little clip on Youtube.

    http://youtu.be/PIG2A7zfE-k

I don't know if someone else has mentioned it, but the 3 carbed Olds pic is the rear engine on the bustle bomb.
