Ok fellas i picked up my new project yesterday! im stoked but need some advice from you guys. Ok im going for the G***er/rat rod look on this car and plan on swapping out the front suspension for a solid axle front end and an air ride rear to get a nice adjustable suspension. Now in the interest of keeping things as original as possible i don't want to chop the frame forward of the firewall to accomplish this unless absolutely necessary. I would like to use a front axle from a '50s ford pick-up but need to go take some measurements to see if it will even fit. My main question is on where to mount the leaf springs on the frame. Well guys any suggestions or advice will be much appreciated. Thanks.
Hi pshycobilly. Listen pal...you really need to do an introduction, and maybe add a little more to your profile page...mainly the intro...before you start asking questions. As has been said many times before...would you walk into a shop for the first time, and just start asking questions? Probably not, huh...you'd say, "Hi I'm Billy, how you guys doin'? Well, I'm building this and that blah blah blah, and then...could I ask some questions? Then after being helped, you'd always say thankyou. (As you have up front...good man.) If you wanted to hang out with a bunch of guys, you'd probably stay fairly quiet for a while, and get a good idea of what they're all about...then gradually start making efforts to add to the mix. Don't think I'm gettin' on you too hard...I'm being nicer than a lot would be. Do an introduction. Now...spring brackets can either go directly under the frame-rails, or attached to brackets that extend inward or outward from the rails. Depends on height, and clearence issues. Good luck with everything, and thanks for serving our country. ( I see on your profile that you're in the military.) And welcome to the hamb. Do and intro post in the intro section. P.S. - Avoid using the RR word around here...the term is hot rod...traditional hot rods. Take care. - Rick
If you'd like some help and good advice about building that car right, come and join us on the '52 - '56 Ford HAMB Social Group. We'd be glad to help. But... If you really want to follow through with the ideas you've mentioned, I don't think even we can help you. This is a traditional hot rod and custom car site, not a r*t r*d site. There's no shame in being a beginner, so before you go to cutting up your new Customline, perhaps your best course of action would be to lurk for a while and get a feel for the kinds of cars and the quality of workmanship we encourage here on the HAMB. Welcome...and don't forget to do an introduction if you haven't already. It's our way of getting to know you better.
