air lock

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Road Kill PU, May 15, 2010.

  1. Okay, so I had my radiator repaired and reinstalled it. It seems to have an air lock or air bubble in the system some where. I can't get the thermostat to open and circulate. I tried running the engine with the cap off and still no luck. Help me figure this deal out.
    Thanks!

****, The best advice I can give is patience.Top it off, run it with the cap on until it's warm, let it cool down, repeat. This has always worked for me. Sometimes it takes a while if the air pocket is at the thermostat. AL

Put a 1/16" vent hole in the thermostat plate to relieve the airlock

Alot of the new thermostats have the vent hole on the newer stuff, you did say you had the radiator repaired, did you install new thermostat? I know I"m not the only person on here that has had a brand new thermostat be faulty.Just a suggestion.

I always after a few problems, have been having the same trouble as you,Now i drill a small whole in the side of the t/stat. I also have good luck removing the air,by leaving the t/stat out till i see water coming up to the t/stat,then put it in and fill the radiator up.You will get all the air out of the block. It works on my Ponchos........JOBOB

Disconnect the highest point in the system and let the air out.

  7. Drilled the thermostat and filled the block up to the level of the thermostat housing and the problem is cured. Thanks for your help.
